As a Korean who is very fluent in English and Korean I can confirm that telling a Korean you’re good at English is a huge flex

Nah mate don't worry it's not bad not to know your native language cuz it's not your fault

I’m sure your ancestors are proud & happy you’re going out of your way to learn it!

Doesn't make you any less Korean! That's so cool that you are learning your cultural language!

I am pretty sure your Korean Ancestors have watched you all the Time and thus know how much you value their Legacy and Heritage and appreciate your effords as the honorable deed they are.

I was taught Korean as my first language (as a Korean-American) and apparently I was pretty good at it, but then I moved to an American neighborhood and my mother (Korean) started to speak English around the house to get used to the language and for the next few years I forgot all my Korean and became a full English speaker. I am legit so bad at languages that I forgot my first language…

I wish others wouldn't shame us for not knowing our "cultural" language when not everyone grows up with that language for various reasons. It's prevented me from getting the motivation to learn Korean because I feel "what even is the point when it'll never be good enough". I'm slowly trying to work through it, so seeing you helps inspiring me just a bit closer to learning

I'm mexican and I speak Spanish but I don't know what language my indigenous ancestors spoke. The fact that you can access it and are learning it is admirable!

I grew up speaking my native language at home but my vocabulary never got any better past 10 years old lol. In the long term you’ll definitely be able to have more intelligible and nuanced conversations than anyone who’s just left their native language on cruise control.

This is so relatable! I’m Mexican American and I’ve always spoke English, but now I got Duolingo so it’s all good 😂

This is so relatable! But I am Belgian-Filipino, and I am learning Tagalog for the past 2-3 years. I cannot wait until I go back to the Philippines to talk to my relatives in Tagalog. :)
