Well, NASA recently launched a satellite called "SMAP" that helps to predict droughts and crop yields, this in turn can help third world countries prepare for these incidents, and it actually saves lives. If we never went to space because we "didn't see the point" we wouldn't have this life-saving technology today. Innovation on Earth is pushed forward by exploration.

We do have problems on earth, but that doesn't mean we get angry on NASA for ONLY 1% of the US Budget. These researches you call "Useless" are one of the most important for our existence.

Maybe watch the movie Interstellar and you might understand why space travel is so important.

You're a brave man, sir, for having posted this! As you can tell by the comments, people are ADAMANTLY attached to NASA.

My favorite thing to contemplate about NASA, is that OFFICIALLY their budget is said to be "about $19 billion per year" (though nobody really knows because the US hasn't audited anything in a very long time, and they kinda stopped keeping track), and the dam that will provide ALL of Ethiopia with fresh drinking water and plentiful electricity costs only $5 billion.

Yes. Duct tape, porn on my phone, and Tik Tok are grand, and all possible thanks to NASA. But, call me a Luddite, I think that adequate water for poor nations, tuberculosis and malaria elimination, and using resources to transform economies into very low carbon emission economies (and no, I don't mean fancy schmancy batteries and renewables, I mean by simply redesigning things to use less energy in low tech ways) MIGHT be better uses of money, brains and time.

Good on you Edvin. Keep shining light in the dark and hold power accountable. Keep your mind and intentions pure and keep striving for a better humanity. LEGEND.

Look the internet exists because satellites do. Satellites wouldn't have been invented and used if roscosmos didn't launch sputnik 1 in 1958. So the only reason you were able to upload this video in the first place is because space research organisations exist. Also space agencies were partially responsible for advancements in computing as powerful and small computers were needed for missions and. Things like duct tape, MRI, teflon and many more commonly used things were invented by space agencies. You may think that space agencies just launch random stuff in the name of science but they do much more than that and you would've known about it if you did a little bit of research. The cost involved is totally justified and you're not even paying that much. If the federal spending by the US was 1 dollar, the money that goes into NASA is less than one cent. Can you not spare a cent for scientific advancement?
