Hopefully someday in the next 5 years I will purchase a farm. I plan on doing a paddock rotation of grazing but haven’t decided if I want to do pigs or goats. Everything around here on the large scale are cows, chickens, and corn and tobacco and cotton in some condensed areas of the state. I don’t want to enter that saturated market controlled by contract farmers and large corporations. I would also like to raise poultry for meat but only if I could do so in a large enough scale to be worthwhile. I couldn’t imagine spending $100K or more on equipment to do cash crops but I would like to get into hay as well.

Your videos have been very informative. Not many YouTube channels like yours.

If you got a minute I got a question. My son brought home one cobb 500 he found that had deserted a truck. I know they get huge. Will it just get fat, stop walking and die? Or can I force it on a diet?

How long can you freeze a fresh chicken like that ? Where you don’t loose the quality

John, thanks for breaking it down and how you as the producer, market your chicken for us the consumer. I personally like how you package without the styrofoam and the frilly print for the appeal process. Therefore this cuts down on the packaging waste for our planet.

I haven't seen any videos from John in over a month. Is there an issue with his channel or is he taking a break from creating videos?

Great videos, very informative, I am looking at doing something like this down in Florida on my girlfriends family's farm. They have 5 acres of land that is not making them any money and their scrap metal business has been suffering due to the recent economy. I am trying to cost out the profitability and how much land needed for them to cover the bills. I can't seem to find from the many videos and blogs I have read an answer to my question: (What is the recovery time for the plot of land after a day of the chicks being on it) Example, If i move a 10 x 20 chicken tractor 20 feet on day two, how many days before I can have that tractor back on that 10 x 20 patch of grass.

Hi John, Great videos. You have inspired my sons and I to do pastured chickens. We raised 49 Cornish cross’s. Everything went smoothly, but for some reason the meat seems tough. We tried marinades, smoking, roasted, slow roasted. We processed them at 8-1/2 weeks 4.5 - 5.5 processed weight. Any ideas of why they are tough. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Hehe good timing on this video... I'm processing some broilers we grew out in a tractor we built with your plans today.

Here in Canada it is difficult as well, we have to take it to a inspected licenced processor, while there are some around where I live they all only do it for themselves as the facility needs to be completely washed down and sanitized between every batch. I finally found one an hour and a half away, I only have 17 this first round to make sure it is viable and profitable, next batch will be 40 birds, with 25 ready 4 weeks after that. I will only do whole chickens this first year, may do half chickens next year if I hear enough demand though.

Next book title: "From Brooder to Burder". (Bird murder)

Is it murder if there was due process?

You stated on your website that this was the best way to contact you. My wife and I ordered the PP#1 and PP#2 combo package (both downloads and printed copy). We've only received the download link for PP#2 and have not received printed versions. i have emailed you directly as well as through the "Contact Us" portion on your website, but have received no response. Like you, I know what it's like to be busy. I am transitioning from a career int the restaurant business into our third year as a USDA Certified Organic farm and are in our second go around raising chickens for meat. I am looking forward to a response or the materials or both. Thank you. Doug Marshall
