"We will rebuild!"...really? That's the same thing the people of Lahaina, Hawaii said more than a year ago. The "sticker shock" of rebuilding and reinsuring in CA is the cruelest cut of them all.

It’s been barely a week since the fire… The “We will rebuild” message not only sounds premature, but it also doesn’t really trigger any hope. People are still in shock, and I’m sure many have not even begun to process the trauma because it’s just too much. I feel like it’s insensitive and dangerous to give false hope amid such devastation.

"We will rebuild" - How about "We will prevent"? Wouldn't it be nice to avoid being in a constant circle of rebuilding from fire damage?

You need an updated building code that requires fire-resistant design and materials before rebuilding anything anywhere. And the Insurance companies need to develop a fire vulnerability checklist, against which policy prices would be set for each household or business.

Its interesting how the title says "We Will Rebuild" when many of the folks I have spoken to that lost their homes had no insurance. Many people will not be able to afford to rebuild, so its going to be very difficult for some to get back on their feet again. California dropped the ball on this one BIG time and should be held accountable for allowing insurance companies to cancel peoples policies and then not being able to offer an alternative. Left many people with no insurance. It's just not right.

Just read LAPD has 180 trucks and only 80 active. Rest are in the shop. Mechanics were let go from budget cuts.
