Malaysia was never considered one of the economic Asian Tigers. The 4 Asian Tigers were S Korea, Taiwan, HK & Singapore. For 20+ years, Mahathir tried but failed to uplift the country because his priorities were his own political survival and securing benefits for his families & cronies. Malaysia’s development was secondary. That’s why even his safe constituency Langkawi rejected him to the point of losing his deposit!
