Did you know that The Netherlands has invaded 50% of the world?!

These are all the countries that the Netherlands has ever invaded. Starting at the other side of the world, did you know that the Dutch were actually the first to discover Australia and New Zealand. Moving north, they had a colony or at least a small settlement in most of the Asian countries. From Indonesia, Japan, China, India to the middle east, where we include Iran, Iraq, Oman and Yemen. The Dutch used to sail around Africa, which explains why we are adding most of the coastal countries in the west and south. They didn't miss out on America where they invaded Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guyana and Suriname, where the dutch is spoken until today. They also invaded many Caribbean islands and the USA. Lastly the home continent of Europe, where it was at some point in history at war with most of the countries. Ufff they could seem innocent but this says something else.

This is what separates the Dutch from France and England. While we had colonies, most were trading outposts. The others just wanted to grab land and humiliate the population. While the Dutch understood that just trading brought enough profit and influence :)

The Dutch never invaded Iran, they had established trade posts with the permission of the Safavid Shah. Later on they had a trade post on Kharg Island wich was given up in 1748.

There is a difference between having a colony or having a trading post or discovering a new country (for Europeans). The Dutch had a trading post in Japan, with the approval and under strict rules of the Japanese, same in China and India. The Dutch discovered Australia and New Zealand, looked if there could be a tradable commodity and if not, they gave it a name, made some charts and moved along. Having a colony is something different, they had a few and lost almost all by war or choice. The ones they didn’t lose became independent after a war, at their own choice or stayed inside the Kingdom as an independent country or as an overseas municipality. The video is an oversimplification and exaggeration but a decent overview.
