In this video, I discuss this tweet from Andrej Karpathy “ FSD Beta 10.11 release notes. Fave item: "Upgraded modeling of lane geometry from dense rasters (“bag of points”) to an autoregressive decoder that directly predicts and connects “vector space” lanes point by point using a transformer neural network." “ and all FSD Beta 10.11 release notes including what they mean for Tesla autonomy, Artificial Intelligence, Artificial General Intelligence and more. I do this through the eyes of a Tesla stock investors (I own some TSLA stock).

Last night I did not have to intervene when we had a pedestrian in the lane. In the past I would have to take control, cross the double yellow line and set off alarms that would terrify the passengers. this time the car smoothly avoided the pedestrian and crossed the line just enough to avoid trouble before returning to the lane. All without any alarms. My passengers would never have known what was happening if I hadn't started raving about how awesome the upgrade was, which took us into a conversation about Tesla's over the air updates. They had not been aware this was a thing. Fanboy level 11 unlocked!

Hey, "engineering lingo" explanation: jerk = time derivative of acceleration. It means that the acceleration will ramp quicker from standing still/creeping. Jerk can be used as a optimization variable or a limit of how the vehicle is controlled, as we experience force (aka acceleration) and not velocity.

Jerk is a physics term for the time derivative of acceleration. This best measures when driving is uncomfortable. Fun fact: it is what causes injury in car crashes not the high acceleration but the rapid change in acceleration.

When someone is at the beginning of the development, the achievable progress is very big from one iteration to the next, maybe 40 to 60%.
But when someone is nearly done, the possible improvements are really tiny like 0.1% or so.

Great explanation of the significance of AK’s tweet. Exactly how I see it. People that ordered Teslas without FSD (which I think is a mistake) are complaining because Tesla is prioritizing delivery to people that did order FSD. This is significant because it tells us that Tesla is planning to prioritize data collection when FSDis released, and it also tells us that they think they are getting close to the release date…..it’s now clear to me that the goal is to have as many in-use FSD vehicles on the road as soon as possible since this will maximize the rate at which real world FSD data will be generated. The faster the data can be obtained, the greater the rate of improvement in FSD safety….also necessary for development of the Tesla Bot….this is huge!

Had the following conversation with a friend (who doesn't drive) as I reversed my car into her difficult car park (not a euphemism).
Me : wish I could just tell the car to reverse into the spot for me.
Her: Wouldn't that be cool?
Me: there are cars that can do that,
Her: wow really?
Me : they are working on self driving cars already.
Her : like that will be around in time to help me (Note we're in our 50s, so she's thinking far future timescale)
Me : Tesla are working on it. Give them 5 years
Her : *astonished* really??
Me : they are already looking like they are significantly safer than human drivers.

She gets it immediately, FSD cars don't get drunk, or tired or angry, have multiple cameras etc etc. She's excited.

My point in sharing this is that most people are generally unaware of what the future has in store for us and how soon it will be before FSD cars are ubiquitous.

Jerk is the change in rate in acceleration. Basically, the force your experience changes rapidly causing you to feel a "thump". Also, "bag of points" refers to unstructured data. The map lives in the world of structured data (vector space) and the unstructured points have to find their way into the vector space, which the points are, themselves, used to create. I have worked on this with LIDAR and I can confirm it is tough. What I did was way easier than what they are doing.

By watching your videos my understanding of the Tesla opportunity has increased 420.69%, just enough to have a portfolio of 95% Tesla shares and solid "Diamond Hands". All I think abut every day now is "how do I find the cash to buy more Tesla shares at any price".

Creep and Jerk I.e. "The acceleration of the acceleration" or integral of acceleration, are actual terms used in the analysis of traffic FLOW. I used this back in the 80''s for Rail Traffic Analysis. I was on the RID Team at Union Switch & Signal when we designed and sold the first microprocessor system for Rail called "Genesis". Still being used today including Pittsburgh's Light Rail Transit System.

You skipped over an aspect of 5: they were able to use *simulated* data to improve the prediction of nearby vulnerable people. Though real world data is the golden standard; as cars get safer interventions will get rarer and they’ll be forced to do adversarial simulation to keep improving. Here is an example of them using this approach to improve.

I saw elsewhere that the NHSTA had approved autonomous vehicles without a steering wheel. I think this is a huge deal and signals better acceptance of autonomy than I expected from the government. I think they will still slow-walk Tesla but this is better than I thought it was going to be.
