I think it's a good move by Google. I hope they make it as seemless as the Move to iOS app and don't abandon it halfway.

As someone who works in cell phone sales, Move to iOS may have been around longer but that app is utter trash. It’s incredibly slow and a lot of the times the phones disconnect from each other. If we’re hoping this app from Google lives up to any transfer app, let’s hope it can live up to Samsung’s Smart Switch app. Rarely have any problems with that app even using it to switch from an iPhone.

Mate, I was able to transfer everything from an iPhone 4s to my Pixel 3 with a 30 pin cable. Even the apps. It seemed quite outstanding to me.

I hope it's successful.
You always hear about moving to Apple from Android but now I think a lot of people who are tired of Apple should come to the Android side and this is a good way of doing it. It doesn't matter what system you use you should have a good app switcher the switches you from it one service to the next and I hope Android steps up their game

Samsung smartswitch works very well while switching between Galaxy phones.

Samsung smart switch is the same and I have done this a couple of times. It works amazing and samsung I think samsung has this for over 2 years going now. It is really a smooth transition . You are just out of luck for FaceTime and imessage, but that is just people in the usa that's worried about that crap

There really is nothing else to copy other than contacts, calendar and photos. Reinstalling apps is of dubious value since not all apps work the same on both platforms. Further, every app is it’s own walled garden requiring authentication and re-syncing of relevant data anyway (e.g. Spotify settings/playlists). Even upgrading an iPhone requires this so overall this app is kinda “ho hum”.
