🛳 What did you think of "1899"?🛳

Olek's trauma- the landscape are early paraffin/kerosene mines. The taller structures in the back are precursors of today's oil wells. The place he emerges from is called 'kopanka' and it was a primitive shaft that was used to manually extract parrafin. It could be shallow but also quite deep. Olek speaks German- back then that would suggest he comes from southern part of Poland which was under Austrio-Hungarian rule - most likely Galicja, where paraffin/kerosene mining began in 19th century (it was after local man, Jan Józef Ignacy Łukasiewicz discovered its properties, and invented kerosene lamps). If you google 'wydobycie nafty XIX wiek' and look at images they are uncannigly similar to the scene we saw. He could also be from Bieszczady which could add interesting layers to his story. It is an area covering part of Carpathian mountains and has fascinating stories of a place where many cultures and historical groups coexisted peacefully until the end of 19th century so, well 1899...

I love, that season two could be a totally different genre and still be the same show. That's kinda amazing.

As a fan of Dark, I really hope 1899 gets a second season so we can keep deep diving into what’s actually happening ang all the simulations . I love every episode, but episode 5 is my fav

This show is like the matrix, inception, and interstellar had a baby. It’s phenomenal, mind bending, and exceptional. I hope there’s a season 2!

When I watched “Making 1899” and realized how many different languages they where speaking I was AMAZED. They couldn’t understand each other but somehow it seemed like they could from their body language. This is the type of show I love. Sci-fi/ thriller/ mind bending show!! There are tons of hidden meanings and symbolisms in the show, this is the type of show you can watch twice and still catch things you didn’t notice the first time

has anyone noticed that Eyk's name can be rearranged to the word KEY? It's been driving me insane since i noticed.

Maura is 1899's version of HG Tannhaus. They both couldn't deal with the pain of loss then decided to create worlds where their sons could exist. But all they were successful at creating were cycles of pain and suffering.

You missed that Elliot is dead. According to Henry, the reason Maura created the simulation was so that she could live with her dying son forever. That's what the grave with the cross represented, and that's why Elliot hid there. It was his grave. In the simulation it was a bedroom/hiding spot.

This show is literally Inception on CRACK. I hope that this show gets a second season because it has so much potential! I also really love how diverse the cast was and how they incorporated all their languages into it as well.

One thing I noticed was the book "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin in Maura's room. I believe there were two insert shots in episode 6 where Maura goes into the tunnel and later Sebastion, Henry's servant. For those who don't know, this Novel is a feminist novel about rejecting marrital and parental life. There were more layers of it shown when Clemence rants about her dissatisfaction towards her marrital life then procedes to put on her husbands pants. In the novel, the main character ends up seeking freedom, by drowning herself in the ocean. Could this play a larger role in future seasons?

This one of the most mind-twisting series I've ever seen. And not in a bad way.
Thanks for the explanations, I've been scrambling for any answers since I finished the season 1 yesterday.
I also love the multi-lingual aspect. It's especially cool when you realize that you can kinda understand bits and pieces of another language even without reading the subtitles.

Notice in the end, Moura’s son is missing on the space ship. This could mean he was conceived inside the simulation. Moura created the ship simulation so she can stay close to her son and never wake up. But her father interferes and repeatedly makes her forget during each resets. Which causes her to use the key and wake up. Now her son only exists as a memory.

The computer that Daniel programs in the 8th episode, drives down from the hatch in the ceiling in the machine room is a quantum computer - they look like this. They can calculate different realities simultaneously in superposition. For long space journeys it is assumed that it is best to put the crew in a twilight state (dream state) - in a kind of simulation, because otherwise they can not endure the long journey mentally and quantum computers would be suitable to calculate the dream state in real time. Only then ethical questions arise or what is real, what is simulated. Maybe the quantum computer is not working properly and has to be restarted or has not switched off in time. This would also explain why the passengers don't want to go back. Maybe the Earth doesn't exist anymore? Is it a generation spaceship? Or is everything only a simulation of a simulation...? I'm curious about the explanation in the 3rd season.

Holy crap, this is a fantastic analysis and explanation of this show. I've been clicking on so many "explained" videos for this show that don't actually explain ANYTHING. This video is great man. THANK YOU!!

I think your 'review'/breakdown is the best I've seen regarding "1899", at least here on YouTube.

The only thing you didn't mention was the other modern meaning for the word Kerberos. Wherein, "Kerberos is a computer network security protocol that authenticates service requests between two or more trusted hosts across an untrusted network, like the internet. It uses secret-key cryptography and a trusted third party for authenticating client-server applications and verifying users' identities." I'd argue the creators are certainly pointing to this meaning as well as the Greek Myth. Your pointing to Prometheus' punishment and the connection regarding the liver and emotions by the Ancient Greeks was brilliant and adds depth to the story being told by the film-makers.

After watching the trailer, I thought that they were stuck in the Bermuda triangle lol. Sucks they weren't, but the show was amazing. I watched it all in one setting, had to know what was going to happen next. Simply the best show on Netflix history.

I think the point of the ship loop is to push humanity to evolve to make decisions out of logic and not emotion. Potentially emotion (love, hate, anger, jealousy…etc) is what pushed humanity to its downfall and now as they all travel to another planet, the ultimate goal is to evolve humanity away from that by changing how we think, perceive, and respond to the situations we are faced with. Maybe the only way out of the simulation is to make the correct decision and sink the ship, as they are told to do. This is the ultimate logical decision free of emotion. Henry says our emotions are what hold us back. I think it’s all a big experiment for humans to be better than we were before, and those who succeed can move on and colonize a new livable planet and not destroy it like we did earth.
