What is a Gummy Rear tire for Dirt Bikes? Do you need one?

Gummy tires are great for trails and help make most guys 15-20% better at riding trails (yes we have measured this with very scientific testing :-) The Dunlop AT81EX was developed for the Endurocross pros and has real world trail usage. Also a Dunlop D803GP trials tire is a good option and the regular AT81 tire is a good tire for all around usage. Now go get to riding some good trails!

Great video and perspective as a non-racer! I totally agree! Dunlop Trials Tire is the best everywhere for what I ride. I keep trying other Hybrids and always come back to the D803, it's like the Energizer Bunny of Traction...it just keeps going...and going...and going... If you are a Racer and don't mind toasting a tire in 1 race then the AT81EX can't be beat in traction and also provides better braking than a trials tire at speed.

I've done a desert race on a set of AT-81s, they got the job done.

I'm going to try the AT-81EX, I've ran the motoz area hybrid(not gummy), and the 505(but not a 525), Then I'll decide on which one to buy 5 of. 505 wears quick, jeep trails I ride are rocky(shreads all tires), and the single track is good dirt, some sand, roots and rocks, that 505 even worn grips the rocks well(but worn is no fun on the single track(when it's steep), the motoz lasted longer.

Thanks for the video!

Here in Oz I love the AT81. It’s great on soft Loam and rocky shaley hill climbs. Also awesome on anything that is of camber. Has great side bite and grip. My son prefers the Geomax MX53 for everything and all year round. These are both on the rear. The front we run Michelin Starcross 5 softs for absolutely everything. It steers unbelievably in 80 percent of situations. Ive tried quite a few of the different gummies but can’t get used to the way any of them handle terrain. I prefer an MX Tyre with a hard carcass and soft pressures rather then a soft carcass Tyre. I think it’s due to the positive way the sidewall reacts to direction changes and also surface variations. Anyway there is my 2 cents worth for today.

Love all the shinko comments. They're not bad tires, but I've ran the 505 and 525, and the Kenda Ibex absolutely smokes both of them. And I'm guessing the AT81EX will do better than the ibex in most conditions. I'll be trying one next tire. I get 20 hours out of an ibex (and they're still ok, I just change at that point), if I can get the same out of the AT81EX, I'd be happy.

Used Dunlop knobbies for 40 years off road and on. If they say hard terrain then they are. You can't have grip and long wearing, doesn't exist. Trials tyre will work until it clogs with mud and becomes a road tyre. Pick any tyre and feel the rubber, if it's soft it's good.

For $70 its hard to beat Shinko's 216sx. It doesnt last very long but hooks up like fly paper. At81's are good when new, but go to shit fast like most Dunlop tires. Plus they are spendy.

I would run one if I got them for free but since I pay for my tires I'll buy 2 Shinko's for the same price as one of these instead.

What’s the going rate for a Dunlop commercial like that lol ? Dunlop is known for high priced average tires at least in the off road. So many better and cheaper tires. Do like your channel though.

4 months and half worn gummy tire...! Warning! Warning! Anyone who watches this and sees rode for 4 months and only half worn on a gummy tire can just throw that BS flag clear up in the air. I guess if one hour long ride each month and no more is all the use it gets, then maybe it would last that long.🤣
