Alex pointed out exactly why something like Lies of P was so incredible for UE4. The game was designed the way previous souls games were, with small, semi-linear levels instead of giant open spaces. That game's demo, many months before release, ran at 1440p locked 144fps NATIVELY on my 3070. Amazing.

The year is 2035, Digital Foundry uploads their next Jedi Survivor video, still no updates for fixing stutter on the horizon. Finally, after years of Respawn cancelling games and milking Apex legends with its commemorative 1000th skin event, they finally announce that they have fixed Jedi Survivor. The patch notes: Removed old EA launcher, Implemented new EA launcher.

I dont understand why devs try so hard to remove loading screen when it can help game to run so much better. Especially nowadays that a loading screen is just about 10 sec at most.

Unreal Engine has issues that not even DLSS and Frame Gen can fix

The Decima engine is so much better than the Unreal Engine

I don’t think they ever properly fixed the first one so I doubt it. Hardware brute force 10 years later is the best hope I guess, I’ll wait to buy it then when it’s on sale for £5.

Days Gone is pretty good. Much less laggy than other games and very good lighting setup. There's a lot of custom stuff

Basically what alex said with ue4 should be made for things like corridors and loading screens etc you can apply that with ue5

All these devs try to make an engine do stuff it shouldn't be used for, sh2 remake should be perfect but they even screwed that up lol

Only the coalition should be allowed to use unreal engine at this point

Was that a Hacker T. Dog reference in there?!

The crux of the matter here is not just that UE4 is not made for this type of game, but also that Respawn is technically incompetent. The last shred of competent leadership and programmers that studio had was poached back by Activision when they convinced most of the Infinity Ward veterans to come back for MW2019.

No. They already made their money on console version sales

How do they even make a game like this? I mean the actual process, Im assuming they playtest it and have to try out the levels and mechanics as its being made. Does the bad performance not bother them or make it more difficult to get anything done? Or is whatever game editor and programs and run it through is so fundamentally different than what the consumer would run the game through that they dont even see the problems to begin with??

Talked about it 600 times and never once mentioned the atrocious pop in 😄

Recently completed it on PS5 performance mode. Performance was great in my opinion

If I'm reading this correctly, The Last of Us has 15 patches on steam. Looks like v1.1.3.1 is apparently the last one since no patches since April 2024. Though maybe they'll sneak another one or two out.

I know Alex never talked about this and it wasn't mentioned, but say Respawn rebuilt Jedi Survivor using Unreal Engine 5, would that be able to cope better with the demands of the game?

Why not import the game on UE5.4 and see how it will work out.
