The Shocking Execution Of Thomas More

During the reign of Henry VIII, there were many important scholars and writers around in Tudor England, however one of the most important was Sir Thomas More. More was a man who stayed true to his faith, and today is seen as a celebrate historian who wrote with grace and elegance. However he was close with the King, but this did not stop Henry from ordering his execution. The issue with Thomas More was that he opposed the Protestant Reformation, and for this also opposed Henry VIII’s treatment of the Church in England. And for this he paid the ultimate price, being beheaded on Tower Hill in July 1535.

He was a sadistic inquisitor in the worst tradition of Catholics all over Europe. Henry was a monster, all right, but More was also one.

I used to think Thomas More was a honourable man, who died for being true to his faith but after digging deeper, i found out it was not as black and white as that as he himself also executed other people for being true to their faiths and had people burned alive for it.

Though I do think Henry regretted executing More, as More was his right hand man who got the job done, whatever Henry wanted done, More made sure it was done and done well, Henry never had anyone as capable as More after that.

He asked the executioner for forgiveness? Don’t you mean the other way around?

He was such a dedicated statesman to Henry Vlll and the country. I have always respected his belief that women should also have good educations. In my book The King was a traitor to a loyal friend.

How could such a learned man believe in superstition? Because they would kill him if he didn't. So much for that

Thomas Moore is considered a Catholic martyr and rightly so. Henry was such a heartless monster. Thomas was his lifelong friend and he executed him for nothing. So terribly sad. RIP 🙏

Sir Thomas More was one of the most overrated figures in Tudor history. He was not a man for all seasons he was a lawyer for all seasons.

How anyone could be willing to die for a God that may not exist is beyond belief.Looks like he wasn't the saint he was made out to be anyway.

Look at the man in the painting of Master Holbein - do we see a vicious character there? I am not sure how the data add up regarding More in the role of tortuerer. Fits English sensibility
