For someone who’s been in this committee for a while, it seems as though Cleaver has zero understanding of the federal reserve’s role in the economy. He struggled trying to ask one meaningful question. This was difficult to watch.

Ben Bernanke, who succeeded Alan Greenspan as Chairman of the Federal Reserve, played a significant role in blending monetary policy to influence fiscal outcomes. He began raising interest rates starting in 2004, which doubled mortgage rates and exposed the fragility of the housing market, leading to the 2008 financial collapse when many people could no longer afford their subprime mortgage loans, causing widespread bankruptcies and systemic economic failures.
