The Rode Wireless Pro is AMAZING. Is this the best wireless microphone in 2024?

Rode did NOT send me this unit, and I paid for it with my own money. This is my honest review of why I think it's one of the most versatile and well-equipped wireless systems you can buy.

My favorite features:
- 32-bit Float Internal Recording.
- Hassle-Free, Reliable Wireless Connectivity.
- Can be used as a stand-alone audio recorder and monitored wirelessly.
- Great sounding microphone built in.
- Charging Case

I am sort of new to audio. I just bought a few weeks ago the RODE wireless pro. I have the RODE NGT2 old shotgun mic. And I have both the RODE stereo pro mic and the RODE shutgun pro mic. I have the Saramontic dual channel pre amp unit but it is Apple lightning. So I can't use it. Recording form any of these mics into my iphone 14 pro max - 16 pro max the auto seem to me to be just to low without a pre amp. Meaning I use filmic pro. I set the software volume to max, I set the wireless pro receiver to max volume +0 and currently set the transmitter to auto. I find the volume to still be slightly on the low side. And suggestions, guys? I still seem to have to up the volume in post to +6-+10 to get decent volume. What I have not tried is setting the manual gain on the Transmitter.

Great video Scott,
I’m no audio pro and you helped explain to me what audio float is. Also, your explanation of the features of the Rode Pro helped me understand the product better.

Your content is great!

Looks like DJI took the Rode Wireless go and improved on it, then Rode took the DJI mics improved design and improved upon it again. Good example of how competition benefits the consumer. I'm still a big fan of my DJI's, but these look impressive too.

Also, in your test I did notice that your volume was a bit low as well. That would be the only real complaint I have. I did think that I would be able to up the volume a lot more with 32 bit float with all the talk about it. I use LumaFusion on my iPad pro to edit and it will only allow me to up the gain to +12 which sometimes is not enough.

Hi Scott,
Unfortunately the built-in lav mics that came with the RODE distorted. I filmed a theatre show and the actor had a portion of the show where he was yelling and it distorted. Even the 32-bit float couldn't save the recording. After doing some research, it had to do with the low sound pressure level of the built-in lav mics that come with the RODE. I went with Sennheiser G4 instead using Sennheiser lav mic for the next show and i had no distortion. But thank you so much for the brilliant review! I enjoyed very much your video!

I agree, these are the best prosumer wireless mics. I sold my (3) DJI kits and now I have (2) Wireless Pro Systems. Two things they should add are these. #1- A way to to Jam Sync Timecode from an external device or at the very least, a way to Sync 2 or more receivers to each other. #2 - A Timecode Mode where Left channel outputs Transmitter 1, Right channel outputs Transmitter 2, and the USB can output or input Timecode.
This would make these units infinitely better.
I would hope these can be achieved via firmware.

Have you tested using it as a boom? When I’ve paired a small mic like video mic pro with my DJI it has noise. I like the idea of wireless booming with 32 bit float. Thanks Scott!

Very good video and informative. I recently bought it and did not know about the ability to turn the receiver into a monitoring unit. Thanks man!

You are wrong, the DJI can monitor and connect to the iPhone.

I don’t understand why I can’t fix the TX on the cold shoe of the suspension of the videomic ntg. Engineer or manufacturing error?

Nice showcase. Thanks. But the lav sound is weird, almost slightly comb filtered! What happened?

Thanks, Scott! So I'm clear... the onboard recording feature would be done directly in the device that's on your subject, right? Not the wireless receiver? Otherwise, wouldn't the wireless interference still impact the recording?

Wooow nice review Scott but when you check sound from wireless pro compare with your original video sound I prefer your original. Yes I know that you edited probably but for me it was extremally difference. What kind of mic and recorder did you use in your video?

As I shoot wedding I am going to give this a good go and see how it works out. if it turns out to be very reliable I could move away from Sony's UHF wireless. .Enjoyed your review Scott.

Is it worth plugging in the the Rode Wireless Pro receiver to the XLR input on my Ronin 4D (using the Rode XLR to 3.5mm adapter) OR should I just plug it in directly to the 3.5mm jack on the Ronin 4D? Do you think the XLR gives an advantage over the 3.5 if the source is 3.5?

Can someone tell me why so many people prefer the Tascam DRL10 Pro? Specifically for weddings? This seems like the superior option in nearly every way (cheaper for 2 transmitters, charging case, and far more versatile being wireless. Need help understanding!

Do these still have the buzzing sound issue with the Sony cameras?
