My First Grafted Tomato 🍅 (Seriously Awesome!)

Gardening experimenting is FUN! Messing around in the garden and trying out all sorts of wild experiments is definitely something I love to do! It's like having your own personal playground filled with dirt, seeds, and plant magic. I mean, who needs a lab when you've got a garden, right? Sometimes you get some amazing results and others, well... not so much, but that's the beauty of it - the joy is in the process and the sheer thrill of discovery.
Experimenting with grafting tomatoes for my first time has been a huge success, let's hope we get some tomatoes from it... any size and shape will do really.

I've never tried this! Good for you for sticking with it, when it looked like all was lost!

Need an update. Keep in mind that sungolds are not known for disease resistance. In the future choose rootstock that has better disease resistance as it will benefit the entire plant. But at least the hardesr part is the grafting itself - so well done. Reason why diagonal slice cut is better than straight across is that the cut has more surface area.

Way to go Roxana. I love plant propagation. That is so cool. That is a great idea for people that have space constraints. Thanks for sharing this.

I have been seeing roses with two types of flowers. My honey crisp apple tree came like that. Excited to sit does for you!

Thanks for the video. Did you follow James before? I love him and his dog. I think you should interview James.

Can you graft it with other parts of the tomato? Not the leading stem?

Gracias

Like you I’m not worried about the science, I just think it’s a neat thing to do.

Awesome! Good job. I heard to set it in dark for a few days after grafting it. Epic Gardening put out some videos on grafting recently.

If you take the container that the tomato came in make a large hole a little bigger than the container put just the container in the hole, pile the soil all around the container pack a little, remove the container then you have the perfect size hole to plant the tomato. Fits perfect.

Any reason the sun gold was better for the base? I would’ve thought to put the heavier tomato at the bottom so just wondering. 🙂

Interesting. I wonder if cherry base will be strong enough for larger tomato. Where do you find the time? Can’t wait to see outcome.

I love sun sugars so much too but my tomato seller I buy from every year had sun golds instead so I got 3 of those to try out. Fingers crossed they are just as good! Your experiment makes me want to go experiment now haha. It would be amazing to have two types of tomatoes on a single plant!
