Video Description:
There has been a lot of talk lately about Apple vs the FBI in regards to the iPhone of one of the suspects in the San Bernardino shooting. It’s a complicated matter of the national security vs personal privacy and thanks to the suggestion of a reader in the comments on a previous video, I think maybe I can help explain the situation a bit better so you can decide for yourself what you think of it all.

I just want to comment and commend you for making this video. So many other tech channels seem to want to not even want to touch this subject. As a fan of your content and it's quality I hope you continue.

being from the UK, really appreciate the video to highlight this subject

personally, I'm on Apple's side for security as if there was a back door, then someone from the hacking community will no doubt find this rather quickly and so put our data at risk.

just a final thought, considering how Apple products are normally so much more expensive than PC products, has anyone got the shivers as to how much the iCar will cost when Apple finally release it?

Couldn't Apple just create a provisioning profile just for the device install the profile from the computer onto the iPhone and then change the settings so that the iPhone doesn't delete all the data on the phone and then just brute force the phone? I personally don't know if that's possible or not but it might work.

FBI as Apple can always change it back or give the fbi a limited time window for privacy reasons and so they can't to do it to more than just that phone, and Apple could request that they unlock the phone do a backup and lock it again making the FBI able to trace phone calls etc. without destroying the privacy of Apple users entirely

So i have a question?? Isnt this along the lines of Jailbreaking?? Im still not familer with all that goes with jailbroken phones as i hav'nt dont it. But does jailbreaking hurt the encryption? And if so isnt that kinda in the ballpark of the fbi hacking a phone to get info. We do it ourselves with cydia to get access to info. Just a thought. What do u think???

It's both positive and negatives on both sides

The gov't wants it for info of what they are planning and at least try to stop future attacks like that or maybe even more dangerous ones

On Apple defense it's been "working hard" to stop people from bypassing stuff and yeah we want our privacy and all

What is the link for the EFF article saying code is considered a form of speech and therefor protected by first amendment you posted on the video? I'm getting a bunch of other first amendment free speech searches. Thanks

At first, I favored national security over this guy's privacy. But It wasn't until I saw this video that I could understand what the FBI was asking for. It is not like a landlord giving out the suspect's department keys, that's more like giving the FBI the whole bunch of keys of all departments in the neighbourhood so they can try them one by one...
