What is a Spyderco Factory Second?

I never knew about the notch indicating factory second. Glad I learned that for future purchases on the secondary market

Received a factory second today from the secondary market, and this vid came up in my feed. It's a Military. The blade centering was way off and the action was poor. Had a hard time flicking the thing. Everything else was fine. Took the knife apart and essentially rebuilt it. Centered the blade. Now its action is quite good. Very happy with the purchase. Took maybe ten minutes of easy effort. Nice factory grind, BTW.

I purchased a horrible spyderco efficient earlier this year and it wasn't even a factory second. When it came, the blade centering was completely off, it was too tight to flick open reliably and the edge was not ground evenly or all the way to the tip. It's possible that I was very unlucky and got one bad out of a million, but now I am hesitant to order any spyderco knives that haven't already been carried, thoroughly tested, and praised by everyone in the knife community. I'm actually hoping it was a one in a million and that it doesn't happen again.

That's a very good idea, in my country Spyderco are expensive and many people can not afford a 200€ pocket knife, I would like to have the chance to buy a factory second Chaman!

Funny! I bought your knife through the online store. They sent a knife in half with a cut blade. I could not imagine such horror!

I've had a few that should have been factory seconds that were way out of spec, bad grinds, off-center, pretty heavy lockstick on the compression lock, but yet passed on through. Hopefully their QC gets a little stronger. Kind of a rough deal when ordering online from an AD, sight unseen.
