What do you think of Taco Bell's Chili Cheese Burrito?

The chilito was my absolute favorite item ever! I swear Taco Bell makes an effort to discontinue everything good. Chilito, Baja Chalupa, Nacho Cheese Chalupa, Quesarito, on and on...

This was my absolute favorite menu item and I'd get it all the time back in the day.

It's still on the menu in BC, Canada. I ordered one yesterday.

It’s the best item on the menu. I used to order in after it was discontinued in LA. Chilito.

I read an article once a month about a fan favorite item is returning to Taco Bell and every time I hope and assume it's the Chilito. Every time it's some item I have never even ordered. This all makes no sense.

Taco Bell bought the Zantigo chain of fast food Mexican restaurants in the 1980s. One of the few menu items they brought over was the Chilito (though it wasn’t entirely the same). When Zantigo reopened restaurants in Minnesota in the late 1990s, Taco Bell was forced to drop the trademarked Chilito name, and rename it “chili cheese burrito”.

Currently, a small percentage of franchisees still have it on the menu. It’s not, as some think, just a mix of meat, red sauce, and cheese. It actually is chili and cheese, and most Taco Bells don’t carry the chili sauce, so you can’t order one even off a “secret menu”.

It was my favorite item from taco bell. All they would need to bring it back is the chili sauce. Sonic' s fritos chili cheese burrito is a good substitute at the times they carry it.

Kroger's "Chili Sauce For Hot Dogs" is identical to Taco Bell's chili sauce. Add a flour tortilla and finely shredded mild cheddar cheese and you have an exact replica. I make them every week! Oh, and don't forget lots of salt.

Man, I loved the Chili Cheese Burrito; my favorite item. Soft gooey mess and I loved it. The video says it was removed from their menu in the mid-1990s ... locally, it was available on the menu for I think most of the 2000s. Another favorite of mine used to be the chicken soft taco, but they changed how the chicken was prepared, for the worse imo.

I was a kid in the 80’s in Columbus, Ohio and growing up we went to Zantigos all the time it was so good. We didn’t even have Taco Bell yet. When Taco Bell started popping up we tried it a couple of times, but Zantigos was way better. Even just the tortillas were a better quality. Their nachos were like nachos you’d make at home real cheese melted on chips in an oven, not the liquid cheese. We couldn’t believe that Taco Bell would wind up taking over everywhere with our Zantigos closing.

If you want the bell on a budget try this menu hack:

Order a cheesy beans and rice burrito. Add ground beef, onions and red sauce.

Now you have a filling delicious burrito packed with protein for around 2 bucks after tax!!!

St. Louis-an here… we still have the chili cheese burrito and never had it go away. I can confirm, our here does not have the nacho cheese or red sauce. It’s the chili meat and cheddar cheese wrapped in a tortilla. We also had a chili cheese Frito Burrito for over a decade. It was my favorite!

They never took it off the menu in Canada, and it used to be one of the things that I ordered there. But I can also make a home made Chili Cheese Burrito using canned chili and shredded cheese.

They still have it at my small town Taco Bell in Ohio 😋. I believe they use red sauce, nacho cheese, and shredded cheese.

Every taco bell I've ever been to here in Ohio has it and they never blink when I order one.
