How does one go about profiling a crime like the Idaho student murders? Who goes into a student house in the early hours of the morning and murders four people with a knife? Is it a stalker? Is it a serial killer? Is it an ex-boyfriend?

I go through how the police would be looking at this crime and how profiling and crime scene analysis helps focus investigative avenues and, hopefully, lead to more evidence and the killer so that justice can be served and there can be safety for the community.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Many people are commenting that don’t I know Jack has been cleared by the police? Yes, I have heard that BUT the police have not stated HOW. Sometimes, they state this wrongly or even wrongly on purpose.

I am not saying Jack is the killer. This video is for people to understand the avenues of investigation based on the public evidence so to get an idea how the case would be handled by the police. There are three main possibility for motive and we do not know what that motive is and so the police have to look at all possibilities and work to narrow this down as they get more information and evidence.

This is what they are doing but we cannot know exactly what is going on from outside the investigation.

Also, DO check to see all my replies to comments and questions on here. As this is an educational channel, I attempt to answer as much as I can (until it is impossible due to the number of comments!) There are things I didn’t touch on in this short video, things I left out and a couple things that people corrected me on that I respond to and so there is much more information in my answers among the comments).

Being a parent of a 20 something old kid, and a rebel in my 20 something years, I don't think that Kaylee's parents know the true Kaylee, especially relationship wise. Just by their "brat" comment even after she had died, I would assume Kaylee wouldn't let her parents into her world much. Talking to your parents all the time does not necessarily mean that you tell them everything.

As a young woman… who was that age not too long ago, I think it’s safe to say that Kaylee used Maddie’s phone to call Jack 3 times, bc he wasn’t answering her calls (prob was sleeping). I don’t believe it was Maddie calling Jack, and if she was, it was prob on Kaylee’s Behalf. That’s just our standard girl protocol.

The comments the parents made about Jack and standing by him 100 % completely made me think of the Laci Peterson case back in the early 2000s. In the beginning of that investigation Her family as well spoke very highly of Scott and said they believed with all their heart and soul that he would never ever hurt Laci.

I think something people frequently forget is that it's legal for the police to outright lie to us, so anyone who's said to be cleared or specifics as to what happened inside could possibly be false to get a response from the perpetrator. However, your top-down theory makes the most sense to me. They started on the 3rd floor and woke up the students on the 2nd floor then they gtfo via the porch. I just really hope this case doesn't go cold, it would be such a tragedy.
