From Sorcerer to Clergyman to Pirate to Admiral: The Remarkable Life of Eustace The Monk

In this video:

Red and white striped, sometimes with a bit of blue, a barber pole twisting next to a small storefront signifies a place where men can get a haircut, a shave and a bit of masculine bonhomie. But this was not always the case. Back in the day, the red and white we associate with good grooming used to represent blood, bandages, leeches and pain.

I jokingly asked the the barber in the newly opened shop next to my business if they still trained in amputation. He then proudly showed me a set of 18th century surgical tools in a display cabinet in the corner .

Please do a video on, the difference between, streets, boulevards, avenues, and other roads, and the origins of the names. I'm a big fan of this channel, it's always a pleasure to watch these videos.

As a 24 year old woman I suddenly feel disappointed I'm not a bearded man for some reason...

Having been a hairstylist once upon a time, I can appreciate your little plug for your BRIO groomer. Was kind of wondering why a quick ad in a show came to be called a plug as well.

I al always using dx, sx and hx in my documents and accounts simply as short hand. Helps me take very quick notes. The practice even pervades my studying.

The fact tat there are people out there narrow minded enough to go out and beat up people because they don't like their haircuts... the world sure is a crazy place

Mr/Mrs/Miss if you've passed the relevant exams and become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (typically a registrar or consultant.) You'd start off as "Dr" having graduated from medical school then work your way up from House Officer (F1 in New money) to Senior House Officer (F2) so still a "Dr". Then as stated, pass your surgeon's examinations and go by your "non physician" title. Anaesthetists for example are still "Dr" when they become members of the Royal College of Anaesthetists as they are still physicians. They also still work in "operating theatres" rather than rooms as the old places of surgery had auditoriums (as per The Old Operating Theatre near Guy's Hospital in London.) A tradition which once understood makes sense and tells those that need to know, instantly who has what qualification.
