Literally only reason he got defeated was because the exile also was a wound in the force and thus immune to his drain. That being said tenebrae is I think the wisest force user to ever exist and he might have knowledge of how to defeat someone like nihilus. Nihilus is basically a hacker because there's no real way to beat him. But I bet there's a ritual out there that either exists or could be created that could defeat nihilus it's just that Vader would never have the experience to know of such a thing or have any experience in Sith magic, sorcery or alchemy to create such a weapon or ritual.

Anakin was taught how to disable Force Drain in the past, but Nihilus' Force Drain is different from normal ones. Vader can't kill Nihilus. Nihilus also has Force Lightning that surpasses Sidious.
