Another thing that shows the inspiration of Americana, and specially the location being New England is the music. Specifically in Pottsfield, the music they are singing is being sang in the Scared Harp style, and was clearly written in that style too. If you listen to the full version, they even do the Sacred Harp solfege before. All this to say, is that this music originated in New England and is prominent in early North American tradition. It still remains popular there as well as the South. (But there are even groups on the West coast that get together to sing this music.) Great video!

I think the what's her bucket was actually collecting, cooking, and eating the Turtles to limit the beasts influence. At the end of the episode she's actually a good person whose trying to keep her sister from eating people. Also the beast has the same eyes as the dog creature that ate the Turtle and became a black wolf lookalike.

The two pennies to get on the ferry gives even more credence to the afterlife theory. In a lot of cultures, two coins are placed over the eyes of the deceased. This is thought to originate from the Greek obols that would be used to pay the ferryman for passage across the river Styx in the underworld. Every detail of this show is so well thought out!

Couple notes:
- Ending is not heaven and Greg and Wort never actually died, just came close to it. That's pretty clear imo by how the people of pottsville view them, as people who shouldn't be here.
- While the beast may appear somewhat like a wendigo in appearance, you left out pretty much the defining feature of wendigo's. They're cannibals. One becomes a wendigo by cannibalizing another human. While there's an argument to say he's doing so via the lantern, that really just plays out more like a lich needing souls to keep their philactery going.

The train version of the plot would likely have been a reference to an old Japanese animated film called Night on the Galactic Railroad, which is another trippy, surprisingly deep animated tale about a pair of youngsters (in this case cats) going on a surreal trip on a train through the afterlife.

So, i know many time has passed buy i just got to see this series.
I think that Beast is also based on Erl King in some way. His manner of spech and behaviour then he first tries to use fancy words, manipulate others and the moment you don't buy it - he turns to threats or straight up force, his love of collecting children and other little things.
