That's a pretty accurate representation of how missiles play in the games.
You buy it, it hangs around for a bit, and gets one-shot by an air unit before it gets a chance to fire once.

I like to think that every seasoned fog of war player in AW has at least tried once to lock down an remote enemy airport by having Missile-chan slowly rave in range of it. Knowing it's most likely not actually worth the time and effort, but nonetheless being determined to help Missile-chan in her quest of finally shooting down two enemies in a single match.

Getting to hit a coptor in one turn and then hitting a fighter on another is totally worth being exposed in the open plains when a bomber comes.
