Multi Users In Middle Earth - MUME. Played this game 1990s :) and its still fun, alive and active :) Tried if I can still play it :) Young trolls life is however not so fun if xping alone. You can go out in nighttime, in sun you turn to stone and back to level 0 and start from beginning. Yes, even if you level 70 :)

MUME, Multi-Users in Middle-earth, is a free multiplayer roleplaying game based upon J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth that has been continuously enhanced since the fall of 1991. In MUME players can explore more than 26,000 open rooms and live in this meticulously crafted world during its late Third Age, and possibly join the Epic War between the forces of the Dark Lord and the armies of the West.

MUME: Multi users in Middle Earth (sic) is an unlicensed MUD based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. It has been continually enhanced since its inception in the fall of 1991.

MUME, "Multi-Users in Middle-earth", is a game, one of the early offsprings of DikuMUD. Started in 1991 by Philippe Rochat, who was soon joined by Claude Indermitte, Pier Donini, and David Gay, the game was created as an homage to J.R.R. Tolkien's world as described in The Lord of the Rings.

The setting of this MUD is in the Third Age, before the War of the Ring, where the player can take on the role of a noble Dúnadan or some other human race (including shape-shifting Beornings), a sturdy Dwarf, or a proud Elf, to battle the players of Orcs, Trolls, and Black Númenóreans - or one may instead wander off in search of a few hours of role-playing escapism.

In MUME players can explore and live in Middle-earth, and choose to join the epic war between the forces of Sauron and the armies of the free peoples. The action takes place between T.A. 2850 (when Gandalf finds the key to Erebor) and T.A. 2950 (just after to the events of The Hobbit).

MUME (inglise keeles täisnimega Multi-Users in Middle-Earth – 'Paljud Kasutajad Keskmaal') on J. R. R. Tolkieni teostel rajanev tekstipõhine paljude kasutajate internetimäng (MUD ehk muda), mis loodi 1992. aastal. See oli üks varasemaid MUDe, mis põhines DikuMUDi mootoril.
