The Sony XG500 is Sony’s direct response to the super popular JBL Boombox 2 and my personal favorite sounding and most used speaker the UE Hyperboom. And if you’re looking for a larger portable bluetooth speaker to take on the go with you from time to time then all three of these speakers are great options to consider. However, I feel all three of these speakers have their own stand out characteristics that depending on your needs will better suit you.

That was a great video. It's impressive how much you get into detailing all the strengths and weaknesses of the three speakers. A truly comprehensive overview that could help anyone decide which one to buy. They are all three cool speakers. Just depends on which features or strengths appeal most to you, or which one subjectively appeals to you

I have my hyperboom for almost 6 months now. Still no regrets of buying this. Crystal clear sound.

Just got the Sony, hit the MegaBass button, add some treble from your music app's EQ, & game over for the other two.

Man all three are good in their own distinctive way. But JBL...works for me. Very good review I appreciate you and recommend others to visit to your channel

11:31, actually the Boombox goes deeper and hits lower tones than the other speakers, and it hits the lower tones more prominently than the others. It might not have punchy bass like the HyperBoom, but it has deeper bass than it.

Hyperboom is the better party speaker, hands down. Physically wider soundstage by default based on how the speakers are situated--sound is 270 degrees-ish which is better for parties, not just coming from one direction--gets extremely loud with an AWESOME amount of bass, and has the ability to have two devices connected at the same time and easily switch between them with a single button press (it has dedicated buttons for each bluetooth device, which is perfect for switching between different people's phones seamlessly and quickly)... It's sound signature is also PERFECT for parties, I've played EDM, hip hop, trap, reggae, and rock with this mostly and they ALL sound perfect in a party setting. You also get the rare option of an optical port, which I've used in a pinch to connect to TV's to show music videos during parties while using the speaker, to my portable projector/ps4 for games, and to my own TV when my actual soundbar died (while i looked for another one--4 months with it as my soundbar and it worked PERFECT, I returned a $200 Sony soundbar and a family member returned a $400 Bose Soundbar after hearing what this sounded like for the price, I had to get a $650 soundbar to have it make sense). And it's also still somewhat splashproof like the others. If you don't care about entertaining as much and want better sub-bass and more accurate sound with better treble, then the JBL is better though.... for parties, go with the Hyperboom, you won't regret it.

I say it on all the post before anyone complains ..quite simply because I’m proud of my collection..2x jbl 310s, 2x jbl flip 4 army, 1x jbl charge 3 and first jbl boombox since 2015.. jbl go and a jbl xtreme 2 couple of old xtremes that had battery failure so sent them back to Harmon kardon (jbl) for those who don’t know their other name.. love them all..

UE sounds better than every speaker I played at Best Buy

I’ve been building up the jbl party boost family. My speaker needs does not involve outdoor parties but rather indoor set ups.

Stand alone I’d probably get the hyper boom. But with multiple speakers surround my living space I think jbl is the way to go.

There’s a lot of consensus that placing the hyperboom by a wall or corner amplifies the bass, but I found out that that also works with the jbl speaker family, even with the flip 5.

The hyper boom is also known for being louder, however, my indoor set ups (having linked 7-8 speakers together and the reverberation of the walls and tight spaces) means my volume will probably not exceed 50%. This also means I don’t need to worry about distortion or the higher range becoming painful while the lower range is maxed out.

The boombox 2 is my choice in this regard. However, not everyone will save up the money in building a family of speakers as I have.

As always, it depends on your needs.

Well in terms of Bass UE has the most Upper bass but it dies off completely at 60HZ Sony has the most mid bass around 60Hz to 50Hz still a new speaker so I gotta see more videos and the Boombox 2 has the most lower bass 50 Hz to 45Hz

I have boombox 2 for about 9 months now. After watching all the comparisons decided to buy Hyperboom.

30 minutes of indoor tests was enough to understand - in sound quality department the boombox 2 is way ahead hyperboom. BB2 shakes the floor in my room with the deep bass + clear mids and highs, whereas HB sounds like a plastic box with a lot of mid bass. You can’t fix this even with an EQ.

I also tested frequency response from 30 to 60 Herz - BB2 is a clear winner. The bass on 45 herz is much louder and more pronounced on BB2.

So if the main purpose of the speaker is indoor usage, with the volume not exceeding 80%, I strongly recommend BB2. I didn’t test the HB outdoor or with 100% volume, this is not the way I usually use my speakers.

Hyperboom goes back to the seller.
