As my Mum always said...sometimes you can be too smart for your own good

There's a thin line between re-invention and destruction.

This was truly brave by Dexys pulled it I adore this...the original version would have sounded rather plodding on this show....And Pete Williams return is wonderful...And Kevin knows it also...The new album is a true work of art also...Wonderful work by all concerned, including the return of Mick Talbot, Lucy Morgan & of course Big Jim....It is these days very easy to slate genius....as people are want to do.But, this is Dexys class, as all true fans know..

Lyrically it is quite magnificent and sonically it is the reason why we exist, beautiful is putting it mildly ♥️♥️

Oh. My. Gawd. This version stinks to high heaven. I loved the original version of this song where it was an anthem of 80's youth. What have you done to it?

Dexys had the faith, lost it, and then found they were just a Kid Creole & The Coconuts tribute band all along.

Its still is one of my favourite songs. But this isn't about being BRAVE. Its about recognizing good music when you hear it. And again WELL DONE Kevin and Dexy!

Bloody amazing. Different and alternative but in a good way.

Brilliant re-working of a classic. And loving that 40s Cuban look, Kevin.

I and I speak for myself am not TONE DEAF geddit, right. Have you seen Dexys live recently, probably not. I am a singer and I should know what a voice sounds like when its shagged. Kevin may not be able to hit the higher register like he used to (although he was none too shabby this year) but his voice still has that unique timbre. Stop living in the past, I too love SFTYSR but I think One Day I'm going to Soar is probably one of the greatest albums ever made.

Geno! Geno! Geno! Geno! Geno! ...
Back in '68 in a sweaty club
Oh, Geno
Before Jimmy's Machine and The Rocksteady Rub
Oh, Geno
On a night when flowers didn't suit my shoes
After a week of flunkin' and bunkin' school
With the lowest head in the crowd that night
Just practicin' steps and keepin' outta the fights
Academic inspiration
You gave me none
But you were Michael the lover
The fighter that won
But now just look at me
As I'm looking down at you
No, I'm not bein' flash
It's what I'm built to do
That man took the stage, his towel was swingin' high
Oh, Geno
This man was my bombers, my Dexy's, my high
Oh, Geno
The crowd they all hailed you
And chanted your name
But they never knew like we knew
Me and you were the same
And now you're all over
Your song is so tame,
You fed me, you bred me
I'll remember your name
Academic inspiration
You gave me none
You were Michael the lover
The fighter that won
And now just look at me
As I'm looking down at you
No, I'm not bein' flash
It's what I'm built to do
Oh Geno, woah Geno
Oh Geno, woah Geno

How can you destroy your own masterpiece

Lucky to have heard him perform this. As they don't really like singing their hits, as Kevin himself states he has moved on in music since

Kevin Rowland was a leading proponent of singing in the club style well before Elton John performed his update of "I'm dill danding".

I don't think this is dreadful, it's just that the original is MILES better.
