The Higgs potential has the worrisome feature that it might become megastable at energies above 100bn giga-electron-volts (GeV). This could mean that the universe could undergo catastrophic vacuum decay, with a bubble of the true vacuum expanding at the speed of light. This could happen at any time and we wouldn't see it coming. Hawking says a Higgs calamity is highly unlikely since a particle accelerator large enough to create such conditions doesn't exist -- in fact, the device would have to be larger than Earth itself.

Some much ignorance in the comment section, just to let you know why this is so important. When it was tested they found the "god particle" or other know as the higgs particel. The higgs particle is so important because its pretty much the creator. What we don't fully know yet is if we live in a super symmetrical universe or a multiverse. Even though multiverse sounds cool. Its really bad. Because that means they will never be any new particles or element and also we wont be able to travel far into the universe because dark matter doesn't exist in are universe. Supersymmetrical allows for new particles to be created also hope in finding dark matter. So yes people this is really important. Remember peace can't be obtained by force only by knowledge.

I just love how these scientist claim to "know" what the universe's conditions were like. It is time that it is acknowledged that *EVERYTHING* they claim to be fact is based solely on someones fantasy, imagination if you will. Perhaps after the experiment they will present us with an *ANIMATION*, as they always do, because nothing "proves" scientific fact better than a cartoon.
