Swim University makes pool and hot tub care easy for millions of homeowners. Each year, we continue to help more people with water chemistry, cleaning, and troubleshooting. We know taking care of a swimming pool or spa can be difficult. And it’s hard to find a trusted source of information. This is the reason we created Swim University.

Does your pool water get too hot in the summer? If your pool is 6 feet deep or less, and especially if it’s an above ground pool, your water can heat up really quickly in hot weather. So aside from dumping in a bunch of ice, here are 5 ways to cool down your pool water.

It was 53 one morning this week.

We purchased a floating canopy that covers about 25% or 30% of our pool surface. It's great and works really well to keep temperature down several up to 5°degrees and our guests really appreciate it in the middle of summer to keep the harsh sun off of them.

What brand of chillers and heat pump do you recommend? Also, what is the electricity impact on both of them? Thanks in advance

I moved my pool into the shade of some mesquite trees this year for this reason. Now I have a love/hate realtionship with those trees. I love that they shade the pool from the blistering desert sun. Hate all the debree they drop into the pool. I'm thinking next year trying shade cloth instead. I may try an airator next year too. Not sure if it would have done any good this summer. The tenoerafure has yet to get below 96 this summer.

Hi, firstly I like to thank you and the team for helping me turn my green pool back to cleanish but I made a school boy error I thought the bleach / clorine I purchased was pursue and soap free, but after using it it began to slightly foam I read the small print on the bottle to see it contained it , Do you have any advise on how I can reduce the affect of the shop in it , please , 🙏 I'd be very thankful 👍

Very helpful. Now I know why my pH keeps creeping up.

Man, can you do a vid on water features? I have a waterfall and my PH levels are always up. I’m wondering if I should run it significantly more or less. Usually just run it for 1 hour a day. I read something about lowering your alkalinity to stop the off gassing too. Very lost on this one

A cover and a dark bottom pool ours is high 80s low 90s most the summer. Cant take off the cover due to too much evaporation. All the cold water is in the deep end..so if you swim around and stir up the water it mixes and helps. Mostly ill turn on the hose for 20 min if its in the 90s and i want to go in..but it also feels kinda nice..but bad for plaster.

The only option available to me is the one you didn't count - dumping in a bunch of ice. I may buy a few bags and dump them in after sundown.

I am from the future... I am here to let Swim University know, this will be your least watched video of all time.
I have had a pool for a dozen years and have never, EVER thought... "you know, this pool is just too darn warm"
