THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT takes place in 1970s USA. We follow the highly intelligent Jack (Matt Dillon) through 5 incidents and are introduced to the murders that define Jack’s development as a serial killer. We experience the story from Jack’s point of view. He views each murder as an artwork in itself, even though his dysfunction gives him problems in the outside world. Despite the fact that the final and inevitable police intervention is drawing ever near (which both provokes and puts pressure on Jack) he is – contrary to all logic – set on taking greater and greater chances. Along the way we experience Jack’s descriptions of his personal condition, problems and thoughts through a recurring conversation with the unknown Verge – a grotesque mixture of sophistry mixed with an almost childlike self-pity and in-depth explanations of, for Jack, dangerous and difficult maneuvers.

This made American psycho look like a Disney movie.

This movie describes the mind of a serial killer in great detail. It was done in such an imaginative way. The director and visuals people did a good job. Its hard to find films that catch my attention and this film defo did. Also matt Dillon deserves at least an Oscar nomination for his acting.

Best movie I have seen in a long while. Matt Dylon is amazing. Uma was fantastic and all other actors were top notch. Plus the director did an amazing job! Wow he brought so much into this great movie. Loved it.

Go see this it's incredible! It has such a brilliant, imaginative ending I didn't expect plus an Oscar worthy performance from Matt Dilllon. The backlash this movie has received is absolutely ridiculous and completely over-exaggerated. Bravo Lars.

I checked the Parents Guide, and man, the violence in this film goes way crossing the line for being an R Rated film.

The more I hear of its controversy, the more I wish to see it. Lars, you are one of the best.

This is now second best film of all time! Number 1 still being Pulp Fiction.

So many people did not understand this film at all, it went beyond people’s heads, and when you try to explain what it was all about people get overwhelmed!

The whole movie is taking you through the mind of a psychopath, we see Jack’s thoughts, his visions, what’s going through his head etc. something that has never been done before. The whole movie is told through his thought process and his view on life, art etc. What makes it even more interesting is that he’s having constant talks, disagreements with his conscience (Verge played by Bruno Ganz.) But really he is fighting with himself. He’s evolving and devolving at the same time.

So many people also missed out or forgot that 25% of this film is a satirical comedy. The ending also got so many people confused. Remember, it’s the mind of a psychopath, the whole segment of Jack going through hell was him dying (been shot by the cops) and having visions of going through hell and trying to get out of there so he can live! It made sense to me, and to me an original, magnificent piece of cinema and art, but unfortunately you may hate it!

MATT DILLON has always been a serious actor, he got TRAPPED in heartthrob land for 30 years. And it affected his career profoundly. ❤❤❤

The old man talking in the beginning is the guy who played Hitler in the famous "Hitler reacts to ____" clips from a few years ago.

Aside from being quite disturbing & macabre, the movie itself was definitely worth watching.
