Use some DE (Diatomaceous earth) for mites, as far as your Mulberry Trees they are probably being take out by borers . You need to use something aggressive to deal with the borers. I notice this spring mine had pinholes in the trunk and it died but I had new growth coming from the ground. The new growth has grown to about 6 feet tall this year. I also took cuttings from the tree and made new trees, all are doing good now. But I have to do something about borers, probably have to coat the trunks with something .

Beau thanks for the rooster footage. Cleansing laugh! Love the ugly hat too. I enjoy the homestead humility.

I love the Kidney Bean Pond in the more centered spot, I think it would help create a whole new lush habitat on your property, vs the pushed up one by fence just seams like an afterthought or something you are trying to squeeze in - 🤞🤞🤞🤞 you Do the BEAN 😆😆😆

If you end up cutting some nice trees, see if anyone around you has a saw mill and have it cut up to use for various building projects. Our neighbor has one and it is so nice!

Great update video. WOW! I can't believe how hot it gets down there in Texas. Hopefully, you can get a garden going in spring and use a lot of moist mulch to keep it from drying out in the heat of summer. I think it's time for chicken soup or chicken stew for some of your roosters. Your sons shouldn't be afraid to go into the chicken pen... time to harvest the mean ones and wear some rooster tail feathers on your "ugly hat". :)

I didn’t realize there were consultants for pond creation. We are looking into making changes to our pond. It would be good to find someone like this. ~Heather

We're going to be putting out a video soon "10 tips for handling aggression in roosters" I think some of these may come in handy for your kiddos LOL

Please don't bulldoze the oaks! It takes so long to get them to grow; of course, if the trees are diseased then bulldozing them down is your only option. Maybe get a modified kidney-shaped pond from your friend that would help with the retaining dam, but would still save the oak trees. Beau, you may not realize it, but some of those trees that look rather skinny can still be 75 to 100 years old because of the climate that we have in South and Central Texas. I know that you will consider all of your options, and any trees that are taken down, you will utilize the wood in an ecologically appropriate manner. Good luck and God bless.

You mentioned bull dozing Oak Trees. Do you have enough Oak Trees to possibly have a company come out to log the trees and possibly any other Trees in adjacent areas. The Tree Logging Company will pay you for the lumber they remove and who knows it might end up costing you nothing to remove the trees.

On your tank, they all have to have an over flow, looks like you have neighbors right behind the tank dam. I would be very worried that overflow might impact them in a negative way.

You can probably find a local guy with a sawmill that might agree to saw that stuff up for half the wood or a little money. Oak makes some nice live edge slabs (or normal boards if you want em, 2x4, 4x4 etc). I'd make the pond a little bigger if financially viable and stock that baby with some blue gill/catfish or something.

we are purchasing a piece of land just under 2 acres and it has a pond! But it is super scummy and over grown. 1 and 2 inch trees growing in the pond. Do you have any suggested resources (books, websites, etc) for rehabbing this pond? Draining it isn't an option b/c its connected to the pond on the neighbor's property which is used with livestock, etc. Do I just need to plan on wading in and pulling/cutting trees and overgrowth? What animals (fish, crustaceans, amphibians, etc) to deal with scum or should I just wait for them to show up? So many questions!

Never ending plans! Huge challenges require the ugly hat. Great job! I need some great still photos of those beautiful roosters (the one crowing in the video) to try to paint them. How about it?

No idea on the mite for the bunnies. We cut all the mulberry trees down. The birds eat the berries & poop on our cars or home & stains them. Junk trees here in Lower Michigan! Fruits & banana trees are awesomeand of course the carpathian walnut, almonds, and hazelnuts are too.
Oak trees are worth good money or great wood for furniture making. Just get the most out of your timber that you can. Hopefully you are going to cull those mean ones soon so the other roosters don't start copying his attittude.

Gee... took me three times watching this video [yesterday and today] to realize that Ollie has gotten into rock polishing. «sheepish_grin» That was something that my parents and I did for quite some time when I was a kid. Turned out to be a good bit of fun... especially when I realized that I could put together stuff like tie-tacks, cufflinks, pendants, etc. for a bunch of relatively inexpensive Christmas presents to extended family members (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc.).
I guess I was too focused on checking out the pond planning portion of the video and didn't 'see' this part until now??
