After being skeptical of Ancestry's new Pro Tools offering, they introduced the opportunity to view advanced DNA match information. In this episode, I talk about how much of a game-changer this is for anyone who has a DNA kit on Ancestry.

It hasn't helped with any brick walls yet for me but thats just because I don't have enough close matches... But I was able to figure out about 100 matches that are all decent form one ancestor 6 generations back. With the matches on MyHeritage I was only able to figure out a handful of them but with the information from ancestry I could get sooo much more information on the family. Pro tools also changes what matches that you share can be seen ... Without you only see up to 20cM and with they show you 8cM matches as well which for this family means the difference between 20 and 150 or more matches for me...

7:23 it seems to open paths that we sometimes do not consider.

I haven't found anything in ProTools that isn't available with my FTM program, and what I've researched the past 10 years. It hasn't helped me solve any brick walls. A group of mystery matches is still a mystery. Out of 10 matches, all sharing very long segments on the only chromosome they have in common, 4 generatation back, none of them have a surname or geographic location in common. The lack of common surname could have indicated an NPE, but not when they lived in different states.

I had a similar situation that took place further back nearer the late 1780's and it was solved using Y-DNA so interesting you managed to solve it using autosomal testing in pro tools. With the new pro tools will the shared match function return matches that have less than 20 cMs? If so this could help me solve the parents of my 5th great grandfather. I triangulated the descendants of his children but I was at the threshold of Ancestry's capabilities so was not receiving the those matches just below 20 which could have led to which brother of a family is the father. However, it did reveal three daughters that were not listed on his will and led to a deed selling his land where the daughters were mentioned so not a total loss and also gave me the extent of the triangulation's abilities. Thanks
