Results of Bee Escape Test

Two different types of bee escapes were used to compare which worked better. The result is pretty clear.

Most I've observed who use the escapes have best results with same type as you did. Thanks for sharing

The reason, why the plastic bee escapes don't work is because it has small vent holes. Bees on the top need to feel a pheromone of the queen and a worm from the nest, then they go down in one night. Sometimes young and stooped bees stack on the freshly built frames and need to blow them, I use bees escape more than 40 years, but my own design and it works just well..I use also my magic spray to chase the remaining bees from honey boxes. It's a mixture of a Bandit, Formic Aced and alcohol. needs only 1-2 pumps from the fine sprayer and all bees gone in 3 seconds. the fume instantly veparezed in seconds ...

The disk was sitting on the top bars, the frames had plugged the vent holes in the middle, maybe need to have a deep rim so the bees have a space. But yeah, Lewis excapes are best.

I’ve never seen that kind of bee escape before. Now I’m not eager to either.

It looks like they can get back in to easily since your box of bees is so packed. I like the cones and get good results - it helps if you get a cool night and they cluster up in the brood area.

Thanks for the tidbits. As expected the cones work best. I suspect the others were hampered due to crowding under the board, but that's just speculation.

How do you feed your double hives ? I'm low on 1 gallon buckets I have plenty of 2.5 gallon buckets. Think I could cut 2 holes 1.5" then use queen excluder just feed both sides with one 2.5 gallon bucket ?
