I use Apple Notes because none of the reasons matter to me.

Gee, I wonder if this is an ad for obsidian. Hard to say.

I am writing my dissertation and realized I couldn't really save my notes into a thumbdrive or something for extra protection in case my paranoid mind believes apple notes will disappear tomorrow or something. Thank you for the suggestions and insights!

I use Apple notes because of security. I have Advanced Data Protection turned on so all of my information is encrypted. Does Obsidian or Evernote have an option like this? My second choice would be Evernote but security is lacking. Several of the issues you mention bother me but security is king.

I am using Obsidian for my Forever Diary, is there any automation iOS shortcut?

The statement that the notes from Apple Notes cannot be exported is not quite true. Obsidian offers a tool for importing Apple notes to Obsidian, which works quite well. It is therefore not impossible.
