Russia's First Elections Since The Ukraine War | Does Putin Have Any Real Opposition?

Russia has begun voting in the first nationwide elections since the country invaded Ukraine earlier this year. More than 31,000 positions are up for grabs in local elections including 14 governorships and 1,417 municipal councils seats in Moscow. The elections will be held from 9th to 11th September across 82 regions of the country. Campaigning for the polls has been overshadowed by wartime censorship laws and the arrest of opposition politicians. The polls are unlikely to yield any upsets for Putin, but will be seen as an indicator of the public mood amid Ukraine war.

In Russia pro-democracy is an extremist ideology. Supporting extremists is trasonous. Elections are held to identify those who are treasonous. This is important especially at times when the leadership is in trouble.

Having only one party to vote for must greatly simplify the process. It probably reduces complaints about voting machines and election results, as well.

Of course, imprisoning and then executing anyone who complains probably helps reduce complaints.

Free Navalny. The best way for Putin and his party to look legitimate is to have an election in which the opposition candidates are actually not in jail. What is the point of even having elections if the opposition is always jailed ? The world and most of Russia are not fooled by these practices .

The only option left is not to vote. Either way Putin will have power, but the lack of turn-out will show that the public are against him.

Why are they even voting? Doesn't make any sense. It's only a wastage of their time and energy.
