As a used car buyer I judge cars on maintenance records and how they sound/ drive, if the interior shows a little wear or if it's dirty I can deal with that. A simple detail can make even a shitbox look half decent but if it doesn't have a good service history just walk away.

Lets say you make a 4k profit, and im being generous...when you factor in the time it takes you to look for the truck, buy it, do the paperwork, clean it, (assuming everything works) list it for sale, show it to potential buyers...
You could make more money on that time doing pressure washing.

Took me 3 weeks to get rid of that s10. Longest I've ever had something posted for sale in 3 years. Ran into some issues selling older motorcycles in the past (NO ONE WANTS AN OLD MOTORCYCLE FOR MORE THAN YOU PAID FOR IT, IDC IF YOU GOT IT FOR FREE), now I only mess with Harleys for cash sales or to trade into newish 4x4 trucks to trade up into newer generation sportscars from a 90s shitbox in a few flips, or crotch rockets to trade into cars/trucks. Swapping a $600 1996 honda shadow 600 for a $1800 83 Chevy 4x4 worked fine for me, but you gotta know who you're selling to before you buy anything. I always shop my local car-barter guys, you NEVER know what deal you might get.

My dad took the time to clean a Ford F150 he had. It was sold for $500 as a project car for a father and a son to work on until the kid was old enough to drive it. The kid was 8-10 years old. the father and the son loved the truck. It was a deal for them as it only needed a oil change, new side mirrors, and a transmission to be functional again. The seat was a bit ripped up so they may need to replace it in the future but they don't have to yet since it wasn't that bad.

Yeah that first sentence is true in most cases. People will not always clean the car they are selling..i learned this first hand when we had bought our first two used cars. The vehicles were/are great mechanically and structurally but they were a complete mess. I am still finding old trash or sticky gunk down in crevices that i never was able to clean before.

Cleaning vents on cars, go to the craft store and get the sponges on a stick used for painting. You can use them dry to remove the dust or wet to deep clean. There’s different sizes and you can get the vents looking cleaner than most people ever expect.
