ODE-Lecture X-Systems of ODEs - repeated roots (defective case)

Solving X'=MX, where determinant (M-lambda)=0 has repeated roots but only one eigenvector (M is a defective matrix). We start from the case of second order equation where the characteristic equation has double root. We show that the solution can be obtained by Method of Reduction, or the Splitting Method. The matrix case can also be solved by the Splitting Method (left as exercise) or by converting to a second order equation.
