It isn’t simply about black and white, it’s about culture. To deny me of my heavy Viking heritage and therefore the widely known and understood grooming rituals of Viking men braiding their hair and beards as a representation of a warriors and power plus cleanliness since they were a continuously wandering group of people.
Where as African women adorned braids to represent their personal strength and even more so strength of their cultural spirit and how it lives on even after leaving their homeland.
BOTH cultures historically wore braids (some styles more confined to one specific culture) but braids in general worn by both, for legitimate and respectable meaning.
Be respectful of culture.
Culture appropriation is dishonoring or disrespecting culture inside and outside of your own culture.

wait do you guys thimk latino/latina people should be allowed to wear braids like people from the carribean and colombia? because their skin might be "white" but they aren't, im just asking bc im confused :/

I’m going to clarify I agree with the first young lady! Everything we have ever done was never culturally appropriate until a white person done it. I’ll link the full short so you can see the full video. These youngsters come on the scene and get a little internet famous and have no clue of the history and spew things without facts or knowledge and that’s to the second young lady. Cultures are owned! They are just mimicked or stolen from by others and usually white people. I don’t hate them, this is just a fact that you can see throughout history

People have told me if I’m not black I can’t wear braids but if you really think about it that’s like saying if you’re not white you can’t sit at the front of the bus I will say the braids originate from African-American culture but that doesn’t mean people can’t do it just because of the race again that’s like saying if you’re not Italian you can’t eat Italian food or just saying something that completely sounds ignorant so I wouldn’t be shaking my head if I were you again it doesn’t matter what race or ethnicity you are just respect the culture what cultural appropriation really means is when you’re doing it out of mockery or making fun of the culture so how about you learn the real definition of cultural appropriation.
