In order for this 5.1.1 update to work, your Galaxy S5 must have at LEAST * 6GB * of free internal storage space available. The update will not utilize free space on your microSD card. AT&T really should alert their customers to this fact.

The part that's extremely misleading is that the update shows that 640.31 MB is downloading. Where the hell is the other bytes coming from?

You have to have ***6GB*** of free space available before the update will work. That was the only thing that worked for me.

Yes, 6GB seems to be necessary. You'd think at least they'd throw out the available space error, but super easy fix with help from good folks like y'all. Thanks!

I updated my s5 to 5.0 a year ago, i know they released several updates since then, even released 6.0 a couple weeks ago.
The problem is that it always says "Current software is up to date."
I know that's bullshit.
Now im stuck with an overheating phone, stuck on 5.0.
Any help?

I was able to update to 5.1.1 toady, finally after several weeks. I followed the video with no luck, it was only after reading the comment about having available storage at 6GB was I able to get my phone to update. I hope AT&T and Samsung read these post, because as end users we should not have to trouble shoot to get an update installed.

I've tried all of this before, at least 10 times but it never worked. That's why I came looking for help. But I read through your comments and saw the 6bg of space option. Once i cleared 6gb of free space up it worked! So that seems to be what helps. Clearing at least 6gb of free space. I wonder why??

I appreciate your video! I did everything you showed. I had over 4GB of free space. The update downloaded. The phone restarted and then I got the Install interrupted error: The software update could not be installed. :( Please note, after finding Darin's comment below that you need 6GB of free space I was able to make the changes and successfully install the update!

I uninstalled almost every app so I had 5.5 GB and it still failed. Phone said "install interrupted" even though I never left the house (and accompanying WiFi coverage). So, I cleared a few more apps and my cache and got to 6.8GB available space. Will let you know how it goes. I have to try the date trick now to get it to check for updates.

With AT&T and Samsung adding all these extra addons to our phones, they use up so much extra space and break our phones. It's pretty ridiculous that AT&T released this update even though literally everyone is having troubles with it.
