This is for everyone:
Generally speaking, bad idea to look directly at the sun during an eclipse (or at all for that matter). The radiation (which can be more intense during an eclipse) can burn your retina, and there most likely wont be immediate affects, but you will be half blind by the time you are 32 since your retina are what help you see.

My parents are eye doctors so I know you need to use polarized sun glasses. Grab 3ish and line them up different directions all together and you should be very safe!!

I saw the eclipse VERY CLEARLY because the sun was near my school and it was COMPLETELY dark!! It was awesome because we were right in the shadow! Great experience as a kid!

I learned this trick a while back.

First, you gotta fill up a bucket and aim it toward the sun until you can see the reflection of the sun in the water. Then you have to make sure the water is still and not moving or else it won't work. Once you have that setup you get your sunglasses and stare into the bucket at an angle. (so you can see the sun's reflection) When I did this I had to squint my eyes a bit so the sun wouldn't hurt my eyes as much. This was way easier and less painful if you don't have those eclipse glasses.
