THE MESSAGE (MSG) is considered a translation. Old Testament: Biblia Hebraica | New Testament: Greek New Testament. Purpose: To re-create the common language in which the Bible was written into today’s common language. Intended to be used as an aid to understanding traditional Bible translations. I just got the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary and I’m so excited 😆 it’s the first year I’m planning on reading the the entire Bible and also the first time in doing real deep dives into the Word and trying to gain background info and definitions of words and comparing other translations to get a full comprehension, etc and I’m excited for the journey 🥳

NEW Subscriber! Great Bible Collection. I am a Bible Collector with well over 100 Bibles and other Resources. I have everything you have shown except the Jesus Bible. I'll get that one in 2025. The Message is funny, and that is why I originally purchased it many years ago when it first came out. When I compared it to the KJV, I laughed even more! 🤓 I have several Message Bibles ~ the Message Remix, Message Devotional, and another one. It is considered a Translation (MSG). I also recommend for you and others the Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible, The Thompson Chain Reference Bible, the Old and New Testament set of the Bible Knowledge Commentary, The Archaeological Study Bible, The ESV Study Bible, The Holy Land Illustrated Study Bible, The NLT Illustrated Study Bible and a nice Bible Atlas.

The Message is not a translation. It is a paraphrase of the bible. It really shouldn't be used for everyday bible ready.

The Message is not a translation and should not be used as a primary study Bible. It falls on the paraphrase end of the spectrum. I would look to your other translations first before using The Message. Please be careful with The Message. A New Living Translation (NLT) would be a more appropriate translation for more everyday language.
