iPad Multitrack Audio Recording Setup

Here is how you can record multiple tracks simultaneously into the GarageBand app on your iPad using a Zoom H5 recorder as a multi-track audio interface. Perfect portable solution for podcasting or recording any separate audio tracks at the same time.

While the Zoom H5 doesn't officially support multi-track recording while using an iPad, it seems to work just fine when connected as an audio interface.

This setup is completely portable and powered completely by a USB battery bank. The USB battery charges the iPad and powers the Zoom H5 (when you select bus power during setup).

Great video! Thanks. I am simply trying stereo input on h5 with simple video shooting on ipad. Sound is great but power input to camera connector not appearing to work. Battery draining....

This was a useful video. How would this work on the newer iPad Pros that have a USB-C port? Would I just use a USB-C hub instead of the camera connection? Also would I be able to record FaceTime audio calls/skype calls for podcasting remotely with others? Thanks again!

I’m surprised that you’re able to connect the Zoom to the iPad via camera connection kit WITHOUT using a powered USB hub. Is that still the case? I won’t need to buy a powered USB hub?

But I will say, the h4n pro doesn’t allow multitrack recording when plugged into the iOS. Any pointers anyone let me know.
