The Best Rimworld Item: A Nutrient Paste Dispenser!

In my opinion, the Nutrient Paste Dispenser is the best item in all of Rimworld. Not only can it be a great tool for beginner players, intermediate and advanced Rimworld players can also benefit from its strengths!

Not only will a nutrient paste dispenser free one of your colonists from the task of cooking, allowing you to get a lot more done early in the game -- such as researching, construction, tailoring, crafting, etc. -- but also, nutrient paste will last longer than any other source of food! If you're having trouble surviving in a more difficult biome, like ice sheet or extreme desert, a nutrient paste dispenser may just be your solution!

Haha the only time I've ever used nutrient paste was on prisoners. They were kept in really poor conditions so obviously fights and mental issues were rampant. Every prisoner had 3 strikes and once they lost them they would be sent to the 'red room', where they would receive first hand knowledge as to where the meat from the nutrient paste dispensers came from. Just don't ask too many questions.

There's another perk to the nutrient paste dispenser that you're forgetting. Colonists do not take nutrient dispenser meals into their inventory so when they are hungry they will always travel to the dispenser. No more dreaded "Ate without table" for eating out in the field!

hey I'd like to just give you a tip for cooking efficiently. Make small 1x1 critical stockpiles for your cooking igredients next to the stove, set the stove to drop on floor and lower ingredient radius to encompass only your mini stockpiles. It's crazy how quickly they will cook - the cooks waste around 50-80% of their time just hauling ingredients. You can get away with having a single cook cooking for 10-20 people like this easily. Your cook will be able to do other things no problem like this.

The fact that your freezer has regular stockpile settings triggers me

Remember, if you're taking nutrient paste over fine meals, you also have to consider that you give up the +5 boost from a fine meal -- a 9 point swing, which is pretty big. Nutrient paste definitely has its uses though, e.g. when you don't have any good cooks!

Allow super useful for prisons. If your warden is often busy.

If you feed it to cows you gain a profit in food from the milk.

''Amy... why did you hold down the dispenser button and drop 30 servings on nutrient past on the floor?''
''I...I don't know... I just felt strangely compelled to do so~ like a kid at McDonald's at the ketchup dispensers...''

New trick/exploit/bug: while hoppers won't accept processed meals in their configuration, if you can somehow make a nutrient paste meal fall on it, you can use the dispenser to create paste from the meal which lists only "nutrient paste" as its ingredient. In other words, by making food go through the dispenser a second time, you can mask its origin. I stumbled upon this bug by producing so much paste using the draft trick that some of it got on a hopper.

I haven't had the time to test it out since I discovered this trick, but I suspect it might also be possible to make nutrient paste from pemmican or kibble this way which would make food production even more efficient.

I really wish you could legitimately create nutrient paste meal items. I don't want to generate a bunch through pausing and forbidding, but I'd love to have a way to serve nutrient paste to the animals. Other people in the world can put nutrient paste into servable meals, because raiders can carry it with them sometimes.

Fruitbats: "Not and advantage: Colonists can still detect human meat."
Me: **Stares in cannibal tribe** "Sorry, but you seem to have mispronounced '+15 mood bonus, cooked cannibalism', kind sir."

I wish there was a Spacer-level tech (or an artifact) that lets you build a more advanced version of the dispenser with none of the disadvantages. Instead of a -4 "ate nutrient paste" penalty, it gives colonists the +5 "ate fine meal" buff. Meals made from it don't have the human/insect meat tag, so anyone can eat anything. Stuff like that.

You definitely have a good point when it comes to colonist efficiency in the early game, but I'll still take my pro chefs cooking fine meals over nutrient slop any day of the week. There is nothing more frustrating than colonists frequently getting break risks, and every little thing you sacrifice for the sake of efficiency puts them one step closer to the edge. Meanwhile, because the difficulty of rimworld scales with your wealth, there's nothing actually inherintly wrong with taking things slow and making sure that all of your colonists are happy, and getting constant go/shoot frenzies and inspired recruit/creativity is extremely satisfying.

When you're doing a challenge though, or for tough early games, you make a good point.
