Arc A770 16GB vs RTX 4060 8GB in 2024: The Ultimate Comparison!!!

Is buying an Intel Arc GPU worth it yet? They have certainly improved a lot since launch, but I'm still seeing lot of inconsistency and issues. Should you buy an Intel Arc GPU in 2024? Here's my thoughts and updated Arc A770 16GB benchmarks in the latest games and engines, including DLSS, XeSS, FSR, frame generation, ray tracing, path tracing, and more.

The Arc does manage to make Alan Wake 2 even scarier.

I’m excited for the day that Intel is competitive in the GPU market, and I understand that their software team is making great improvements, but I have a hard time seeing why anyone would buy one of these currently. You’re basically paying to be a beta tester.

I dont understand, my A770 16GB runs the alan wake 2 really well. I play 1080p high. I think your igpu is taking over. my CPU is 13600KF and has no igpu.

Would you please go into bios and shut off the atrocity that AMD calls integrated graphics (or otherwise find a solution that removes iGPU from the vocabulary) and retest both? "Out of the box" is a pretty sheer curtain to hide problems behind when this video's comments have a fair representation saying that A770 is fine, and even pointing to HUB's re-review as counter-evidence.

I thinks a lot of people here are forgetting we’re getting a 3rd gpu company that is getting more and more competitive. That’s a win for us, even if it takes a while

Feels like something is off with the testing, I have seen lots of tests with Arc and of course there are problems, but this just seems to be too much for just the gpu alone.

this is interesting because gamers nexus showed a graph were the 4060 had more and bigger spikes in framtime
and why are we seeing very high vram usage in starfield for the a770 while also seing much higher ram usage?

I love that you show the issue when iGPU takes over rather then dedicated gpu (of course you could have gonne the extra mile and fixed issue just get best result). Even experience this om Acer predator with intel cpu with igpu and rtx3080.
People straight out saying it is AMD issue are dead wrong.

One thing you'll notice with the A770 is that even though the reported GPU usage is 99% during testing (at least save for AW2), it has a WIDLY inconsistent power draw profile, which the 4060 doesn't. The 4060 is at damn-near its TDP of a 115W all the time, but the A770 when it's underperforming, it can be upwards of 100W below the peak it hit with BG3.

What does that mean in technical terms? Driver. Overhead. The GPU is trying its damn hardest to render the game, but there's a *serious* bottleneck somewhere along the chain, and I'm inclined to believe it's either Arc's proclivities on a basic architectural level, or just Intel's drivers failing to streamline the rendering pipeline as efficiently as AMD and NVIDIA are able to consistently do.

I get that Intel has a million games to try and catch up on, but it's disappointing that they don't seem to be prioritizing the newest AAA games. Especially considering they're bound to be the most demanding.

To be fair Starfield ran like absolute garbage on Nvidia at launch so that makes me wonder if a lot of Arc's poor performance isn't entirely on Intel but might have a lot to do with developers doing ZERO optimization for Arc. Drivers can only go so far with performance if the developer isn't willing to meet them halfway.

This leaves Intel in a catch22 where developers won't optimize for Intel when they don't have a large installed base, but Intel can never get a large installed base if developers never optimize for them. Especially these days where developers don't want to optimize _at all, _ let alone for the distant 3rd place cards.

With the $15 you save buying the A770 over the 4060 you're going to have to spend it on upgrading your psu. Don't see why it should be hitting those high watt numbers on the a770.

A 400mm² die + 8GB extra VRAM "competing" with a 160mm² die. Which means it's like 200% more expensive to produce. I want to see how long Intel can sustain this "competitiveness". Another generation like this and it's over. Intel has a lot of financial problems right now even without the GPU division.

For me, other than technical problem, the main issue for Arc is the price. The US pricing might put A770 16GB on par with 4060 but in my country, , A770 16GB is on par with 7600XT pricing (which still has that new GPU price premium) thus has like $90 premium vs 7600. So yes, that makes 7600 $90 cheaper than A770 16GB while 8GB version is $50 more expensive than 7600. 4060 is slightly cheaper than A770 8GB. Around this price point, currently the best value/performance is 6700XT since you can find that GPU at a lower price than 4060.
So yes, Intel GPU is not cheap in my country and with the performance problem, it is a non starter for me. I did consider buying Intel GPU back then when GPU prices were inflated, but even back then, Intel GPU is the most expensive one in its performance bracket. This is in Indonesia btw.
Honestly, I think Intel just doesn't care about selling their Arc GPU in here, and if they don't care, I also don't care.

Hi Daniel, I’ve found that AMD and Intel can throw fits with some capture cards (no capture card is truly transparent even when you configure them to pass through the monitor EDID). In other words, perf runs on AMD/Intel may not be representative when connected to a capture card + monitor. Just my experience.

Give Intel time. Arc is their first generation of discreet GPU's after all. There is always bound to be issues and quirks especially when it comes to software/drivers as they don't have years of experience the way Nvidia and AMD have.

We can be harsher on their second and especially third generations (if it comes to be) when the time comes, but for now just be glad we have a third player in the market at all.

I don't care, im buying an a770.. I'm just happy there's a 3rd contender in the market

Really would like to know if Intel has reached out? Also would like to know if this is going to be revisited/corrected or if we're just leaving this out there to sway buyers with inaccurate information. This is not what I expected from this channel.

Alan Wake 2 doesn't run badly on Arc. Suspect something is wrong w/ your test setup, Daniel.

Can you test any older games? MS Flight Sim, any city builder or RTS, any game using unity engine, and EA sports game (FIFA, Madden, etc)? Not everyone who buys a $150-250 GPU wants to play latest AAA games or FPS games. Does Arc even work on those games?
