Ellie-Jean… you’re onto something here. You have such a deep understanding of style, and contrary to a lot of “style gurus” out there you understand different styles. You get it. You’re a breath of fresh air. Your mind is structured and creative at the same time, and now you’ve created something both interesting and useful. Well done!!

Wow my mind is blown; I always loved boho/60s/70s/cowboy styles, but on the other hand the more formal Dark Academia/English Country Style as well, and I always thought I was conflicted because these styles seemed so different. So interesting to think about that they might actually have more in common than I thought! Thank you so much, your system sounds so interesting!!

Ellie-Jean's style root theory is so refreshing, and inspiring, and just all-round amazing, because she's not looking at women's fashion from the outside in like Kibbe and Fruit-type systems, she's honouring the individual from an inside perspective; not a designer saying "I think you'd look good in this", but an individual dressing for themselves saying "I feel good in this, I choose this for myself!" and that is unbelievably liberating and gorgeous ❤ I know I'm basically just restating what Ellie-Jean herself says, but I'm just so blown away by what she's brought to this kind of fashion theory. I hope your inspired thinking is remembered the same way Kibbe's is Ellie, I really do. What an amazing way of looking at personal style ✨❤😊

After all the fundamentals are laid out, doing a video for each root and how it combines with the others (with outfit examples) would be incredible!

Note to self: Fire, moon and earth.

I live in Japan where people try the hardest to fit into a trend. I found it very hard to find something that I like. For months, I had been struggling to define what my style is. Your video helped me hugely. Thank you!!

Thank you for doing fashion advice that isn't based on being on trend, this is ultimately more sustainable and in line with the diversity of bodies and tastes

I just thought of this with the essences:

Dramatic: mountain
Natural: stone/earth
Gamine: sun
Classic: mushroom
Romantic: fire
Ingenue: flower
Ethereal: moon

I would love to see these style ingredients with older women. You definitely got something here. Us older women can use these same techniques, but our bodies are so different❤️

I'm having trouble finding my style roots, since "modest vs. sensual" and "on top of things vs. carefree" are things I either don't consider, or which I'd rather be switches from day to day, but I know moon is up there (dark and experimental), and I'm looking forward to the next video!
Edit: I finally settled on carefree over on top of things, because I'd generally rather look sloppy than stuffy, I really like distressed fabric and obvious mending, and I like a little chaos in my outfits, although modest vs. sensual is still a tossup. This makes my top 3 style roots moon, earth, and sun, which seems like an odd combination, but I've described my ideal aesthetic as "Nevergoth" or "Neverland undead, " so it sounds about right for me

love this system. As a soft dramatic i feel like i'm 40% fire, 40% flower, 20% mushroom ! love all the outfit combos you did at the end of these cant wait to see more examples for others <3

Such a cool system. I'm Soft Dramatic and here I'm Mountain, Mushroom, and Stone. I think this is perfect for me. Structured, elegant styles that are softened through fabric, styling, and color choices.

I think the roots that would fit me are
1 mountain
2 fire
3 flower

This is such a beautiful way to look at style and personality, and I love that you took inspiration from nature to put together the style roots!

PART 1:
Sensual
Dark
Carefree
Delicate
Experimental

1. Carefree
2. Experimental
3. Sensual

So as of Part 1, I think I may be Earth/Sun. I already know I am a Romantic body type with Gamine essence. I found the “Dark Fairy” video super useful!

•••

PART 2:
Sun: Creative, wild and bold. Quirky. I LOVE this. Really speaks to my Gamine essence!
Mountain: I hadn’t considered Mountain before, but the blazers and suspenders are somethings I’ve always been drawn to. They contrast well with my Romantic shape to again, enhance my Gamine essence.
Earth: I love pressed flowers, patchwork, old books and the Dark Academia aesthetic.

Something I’ve been looking into lately has been Fairy Academia, which I feel ties all these things together really well. It’s like a coquettish, ruffle-scruff ragamuffin inventor or artist living in an Edwardian forest. Very specific, but it AT LAST pins down the vibe I get from Helena Bonham Carter’s style and it explains why I’ve loved her style since I was 11 years old! That’s 9 years now haha. This has been a 9-year battle of of trying to find myself and now I’ve got it! And because of my Romantic undertone I don’t feel I have to sacrifice sensuality or femininity in order to be a quirky little weirdo haha!! Oh I wish I could hug you for helping me sort my life out lol. This is a fantastic theory, well done! I really hope you continue to publicise it so others may have a similar experience to me!

For anyone with similar tastes, textiles I’ve been considering are:
Dainty Florals
Brown Leather
Suede
Velvet (in small doses)
Lace
Layered Tulle
Lots of chains (jewellery & belts)
Chunky boots (Dr Martens of course!)
Corduroy
Darker/muted natural colours (greens, pinks, purples, beiges, greys etc.)

Hope my comment helps someone! Thanks again Ellie-Jean!!

If you’re struggling to identify your style roots, something that helped me was going through Ellie-Jean’s Pinterest board for each root and saving the pins that resonated with me to my own style root boards. That helped me rule out which roots I definitely don’t like and also identify which specific element of each root it is that I am drawn to.

For example, I knew that Sun was probably one of my roots but as Ellie-Jean says that could be anything from collars to peplums to prints. After doing the above I realised that the Sun root for me means bright pops of colour rather than quirky details.

Hope this is useful!

I was watching Emily in Paris. I know it's bad but whatever. I find it fun to classify their styles. Emily is like 99% sun, camille is like a moony mushroom, mindy is earth, sun and moon, and Silvye is a firey mountain.
Do you agree? I think your viewers might like to see fictional characters with this system, to take inspiration.

This really nailed it for me. My top three are Mountain, Stone and Earth, and I can absolutely see these reflected in my style over the last twenty years. Understanding my body type and season is really helping me bring in the Earth qualities in ways that are more flattering than when I was younger without pushing me completely into Mountain or Stone, which I’ve felt as I am getting older. Brilliant!

I love this so much. I've always described my style as Parisian chic but make it edgy. Which translates beautifully into a strong Mountain with Moon and Stone supporting it. I love this framing!

This is genius!! Growing up I’ve always been drawn to spookier things like ghosts, Halloween, murder mysteries, wolves, the colors black and white together. I’m an artist as well, and I work with graphite, so that of course is a little more ominous looking because I tend to go for a lot of contrast in my work.

But I also love nature, and animals, flowers, coziness, simpleness, modesty, neutral colors. So I’ve confirmed my style roots are mushroom, flower, and moon 😆 Makes perfect sense because I’ve concluded my personal style awhile ago (although I can’t figure out my kibbe…🤔 ), but wanted a name for it, so this quiz was perfect!

My style is very much simple, muted, and neutral colors, and I like to look put together. The kicker is figuring out how to add my moon root lol! I do that by wearing ear cuffs, a toe ring, multiple rings, my naturally voluminous, wild hair, and eyeliner 😆 That way I still look put together the way I like, but my moon root shows the side of me that doesn’t take life too seriously <3

What I find so fascinating about this system, is that I always thought I wanted to dress modestly, but through your educational content and quiz I realize that when I don't connect with my style roots and essence, and when I don't embrace my lines, I want to disappear/not be seen. That is not the same as having an authentic modest style root.
