Andrew Jackson the 7th president of the United States, had a depressing childhood because his parents both his father Andrew Jackson and his mother Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson were desperate poor immigrants from Ireland which they sailed on a ship with their two sons Hugh & Robert. Andrew was the third and the youngest of the boys, born and raised in the Waxhaws region in the wilderness between North Carolina & South Carolina border. He and his siblings grew up in poverty which they struggled to have a normal life. His father died in a logging accident while clearing the land, at the age of 29 three weeks before Andrew himself was born in 1767 and it is possible he never had a good responsible male role model in his life because he never met his father. Boys who grew up with absent fathers or abusive fathers or any violent man in their lives, are far more likely not completely but far more likely to end up growing up as violent criminals. Andrew’s eldest brother Hugh died from heat exhaustion in one of the battles during the American Revolutionary War. When Andrew was 13 years old he and his brother Robert served in the militia drills, later on they were captured as prisoners of war by the British. Andrew refused to clean the boots of an arrogant British male officer, which the officer angrily slashed him with his sword, leaving Andrew with scars on his left hand and his head. Andrew and Robert both contracted smallpox disease plus they were nearly starved to death in captivity by the British men. Later on the two brothers were released and secured by their mother which she walked a long journey with both her sons home. Both Andrew and Robert were in poor health plus they were very sick. Robert who was in far worser poor health condition than Andrew, sadly died from smallpox after two days of travelling when they finally arrived home. Andrew was the only child left and he was lucky enough to have survived his sickness of smallpox thanks to his beloved mother who nursed him back to health. Elizabeth later on volunteered as a nurse to help a group of American prisoners of war on board of the British prison ships controlled by British soldiers because there was another disease spreading called Cholera. Later on she died from a disease leaving Andrew as an orphan at the age of 14. He later in his life developed more hatred for the British for the rest of his life and blamed them for the loss of his three brothers plus his mother similar to other American colonists who were frustrated with British monarchy because of how oppressive they were.
