This weekend I spent with friends at Fieldcraft Survival teaching a packed class about radio communication and preparedness. I brought a LOT of gear, let's talk about it.

When I canoed the entire length of the Mississippi River with family and friends I helped at least 1 person per canoe get their ham license. We all used waterproof radios or kept them in a waterproof bag. Came in handy because we got strung out for about 5 miles as people slowed down and sped up to look at things... and when someone at the rear was flipped by a barge wake. We turned around and went back to help them dry out and get everything back in the canoe.

And when we explored some islands... 2 canoes got lost in dead end backwaters... we talked them out by listening to them describe where they were and looking at the map I carried(I fished it a lot, had detailed mapping).

Was a fun 6 week trip! Met a lot of super friendly people, got invited to spend nights in barns during bad weather, some awesome home cooked meals were shared(we usually gifted whatever fish we caught that day, walleye and catfish were always on the stringers)...

OK, so question, can I use vhf to hit a repeater that transmits with an hf frequency, that tranmits back to a vhf frequency and how back the other way?
