For anyone that doesn't tolerate gels (I learned the hard way😬), for runs longer than 90mins, also try running beans (not actual beans, like gummy bears). If you want natural food bananas, raisins, and my favorite boiled fingerling potatoes are good choices. I got boiled potatoes from an ultramarathon website so I didn't make it up but it does look odd when I pull it out on race day🤣

PLEASE TRAIN YOUR DOG TO DRINK WATER BEFORE LONG RUNS. I’m sure anything up to 15 miles with a physically fit dog is okay (little dogs and unfit dogs is gonna be about 5-10 miles) but athlete dogs are trained to drink enough water before the run so they don’t kill themselves. There are a variety of different methods to train your dog to do this and it’s important because dogs can die of dehydration and overheating if they run for over 15 miles on a hot day. Also consider bringing along a water bottle for your dog so they can recharge themselves, I’m sure all of your pups are super happy and excited to run with you guys, make sure to stay safe!

Fuelling is def something that needs practiced and experimented with well before race day. Getting 60-90g+ of carbs per hour into your system can be surprisingly difficult without it being violently excreted.

And then there's the right electrolyte mix. If you're a salty sweater, you need more sodium. _How much?_ Enough so you don't cramp. _How much is that? Hello?_ Don't forget to tweak the carbs in your water to the same ratio to maximise hydration. _That doesn't answer my question._ 😅

At some point you'll likely get it wrong, but don't worry too much. Crapping yourself is a right of passage for an endurance runner.

Honey stinger and Huma Gels are the gels of choice for me. Tried the GU gels once and was grossed out.
