In context, what she said is totally acceptable and not offensive. Most pure vegetarians especially from namma Karnataka think like this, and we non-vegetarians need to understand and respect their sentiments.

As a vegetarian I also love to carry my own food, I am a foodie but it's hard to find a good vegetarian restaurant where they searve food without onion and garlic...but the same thing also going in mind that they say its veg but they dip the same spoon here and there 😅. I am under my 30's and I follow the same thing as a matter of food as I am too pure vegetarian but people around make fun of me that I don't enjoy food and you don't have much options as vegetarian. For that matter I also love cooking and started offering them my home cooked food and they were amazed by the variety we can explore being a vegetarian and satvik.

I was a hardcore meat eater but I became a vegan/vegetarian a few years ago. I have to admit that I thought pure vegetarians who struggled to eat outside in restaurants serving meat were strange and I would wonder why they can't adjust but I understand it now. It's difficult for a lot of meat eaters to have empathy and understanding towards strict vegetarians, I am happy that I can see her perspective and it's unfortunate that she was criticized.
