I’m a former colorist as well, and I want to explain for people wondering why the companies market this as a pre-shampoo treatment. I was in the Ola Plex Facebook group for professionals when Ola Plex first came out and I had a front row seat to this problem. The reason is because when Olaplex first came out, people were thinking they could replace their conditioner with bond treatment. They were treating OlaPlex number 3 like a conditioner because it has a deceptively creamy texture. So they would shampoo, use the bond treatment, and then wonder why their hair felt dry and brittle after they dried it. This led to a huge amount of negative reviews from people who were incorrectly using the product as a conditioner. So Olaplex thought the best way to correct this was to tell people to use the treatments before shampoo so that they would naturally feel the need to still use the conditioner after the shampoo, and stop trying to use it as a conditioner. Definitely not perfect, but product education overwhelms the average consumer. Abbey’s audience are people seeking product education, of course it won’t make sense to us 😊 hope that helps!

I don't get why they made all these pre shampoo bond repair products just to say psych use it after shampooing on clean hair

I don't understand why they market them in a way that's not the most effective?!

They shouldn’t label it “pre shampoo”.

I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I agree with Abbey! I found using Olaplex 3 works much better after shampooing than before shampoo. (Or any other bond repair treatment)

I’ve been doing this wrong and getting great but short term results. Horrible dryness a week later every time.
THANK YOU MUCH! ❤️
Starting over this way. Praying you’re right. 💕💕💕

The problem is brands are telling YOU a thing and telling US... IN THEIR PACKAGES... something different. I do shampoo because it doesn't make sense to apply these things on dirty hair.

Ok coconut oil, clarify shampoo, redken bonding, rinse, conditioner, rinse, leave in conditioner, heat protect. Hope that’s right. Taken before photos. Hair keep breaking off at sides. Bought soft scrunchy to gently tie hair back. Different style everyday. Ok I think I got this 😬

I so appreciate this! it never made any sense to me to put it on my hair dry before I shampoo because I have curly hair and so I have curl cream and gel on! I have been washing my hair, letting it air dry, then putting the bond treatment on etc. If it works to put it on between shampoo and conditioner that would make it so much easier.

Typically bond repairing products require being shampoo’d out of the hair and then follow up with conditioner. ❤
Shampooing before is definitely best for optimal penetration, but bond builders are not conditioners, and they leave a residue behind(thus shampooing again).❤

As a LONG TIME hair stylist, that makes perfect sense!

Thank you! I've always put my bond repair on after shampoo, no conditioner, bc it just makes more sense to me for the exact reason you cited.

I have literally scoured the internet for years now trying to figure that out because it never really made sense to me to put something in your hair and then either clarify or shampoo it out

Makes sense but why not call it “post shampoo” bind repair or “pre-conditioner” bond repair? I bet they’d sell a lot more if Thanks Abby for always bringing us #facts#truth❤

Does this sound like a good routine?: hair oiling, shampoo once, use bond repair product, shampoo again, hair mask, conditioner, rinse, then apply leave in conditioner and heat protection and follow with styling as desired?
