2022 Ford Maverick Lariat Interior Review (Beth + Matt)

Показать описание
Beth and Matt review the 2022 Ford Maverick interior in its top Lariat trim. The headline-grabbing features of the Maverick were its $21,500 starting price and 42 mpg fuel economy rating. But this fully-loaded Maverick Lariat with the 2L EcoBoost engine and AWD has neither of those features, getting about half the fuel economy and a much higher as-tested price of $36,295. At these prices, the Maverick interior is still cool and unique, with a good amount of space, but it begins to fall behind the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which offers more tech, power, and comfort for the same price. Which would you rather have, Maverick or Santa Cruz? Thanks to Ford for providing this Maverick to review!

Think you should have mentioned the Maverick with the ecoboost engine, 4wd and tow package can tow 4k pounds. All other versions tow the 2k pounds you mentioned in the video

After sitting in a loaded Maverick, I quickly realized how Ford has kept the price down. The materials used for the interior really surprised me. The slightest push on anything made the plastic flex. The other materials that make up the dash didn't feel great to me and it seemed to scratch and scuff very easily. Aside from that, you can't beat the price for a small truck.

The base Maverick tows 2, 000 lbs, but can be optioned to tow more with the Ecoboost and 4k towing package. I've spec'd out a nice XLT luxury package AWD, but not sure about the interior color. I might have to go up to the Lariat. That interior looks like the Brownstone interior on our Equinox, which I really like. Thanks for the review!

NIce review! you guys kick. One point: My 2017 edge Titanium has more "luxury" features for the passenger (Power Seat, Air Conditioned Seat), as it's more of a luxury car. Maverick seems to be a budget truck with some luxury features. Always enjoy your work; well done and there's a lot of behind the scenes editing and things we don't see. You guys work hard and it shows. Well done!

I ordered my 2023 Ecoboost AWD Lariat on Friday. Drove the Santa Fe and the Honda Ridgeline and ended up ordering a Maverick site unseen. Comparably equipped, Santa Fe is five grand more and the Ridgeline is 10K more than the Maverick Lariat. The Santa Fe during the test drive felt like a car with a large trunk that is actually smaller than the Maverick's. It just felt like it was a vehicle with an identity crisis. Am I a car or a truck? Am I good at either one? The Ridgeling had the same problem and for the price you might as well get a real full size truck. The Maverick on the other hand was designed and built by a company that knows trucks better than anyone else. While it shares the SUV platform it looks like a small truck. The base XL maverick hybrid is a good deal but without AWD it is useless in the NE. With the Maverick Lariat you are getting a ton of modern features and all the latest tech for 36K and that includes the Ecoboost and AWD. No brainer.

Ford's interiors have always been their biggest weakness but the current minimalist, rugged trend is actually doing them a huge favor. Base spec is an insane value if you could actually get them at MSRP

I like that the bed is deeper. But I would buy the hybrid. I have enough 4WD power in my other vehicles.

Even without knowing ahead of time, you can tell who already owns a Ford and who leases a Mercedes :)
Having driven two dealer demo Mavericks (an XLT hybrid and a Lariat FX4) in northern MN wintertime, on pavement and gravel roads, an XLT AWD would be the the way to fly. The latte crowd can whine about the hard plastic, but those of us who use a truck in four real seasons as a work tool appreciate stuff that's easy to clean off. And I don't feel down-trodden by having to spin an ignition key (especially if it keeps my right knee from hitting a START switch housing). This smokes a current production Ranger in the winter due to the lower Center of Gravity; the lower CG (more than the subsequent lower box height) being something that seems to get skimmed over by new car media that is fixated on rock-hopping ground clearance, secretly wanting a Maverick Raptor. Matt, you pretty much nailed it overall - those of us who are still pissed that Ford dropped the original Ranger will feel like a long lost friend came back from The Dark Side with the Maverick.

"If you are a tall person, your knee could fall close to the button" — Thank you. Being 6'3", I am constantly frustrated by unnecessarily wide console dividers. It used to be easy in the past to find a compact car with a good driving comfort, but now big gulps are prioritized over the driver.

An XL with the 2.0L and AWD at 26K is very compelling

I’ve test driven the XLT AWD it’s not a bad package sub $30k. They along with everything else reasonably priced is unobtanium sadly. I will be looking at trading my Ram for something similar in the future. I don’t need a full size, just need to pull a small trailer and haul some stuff on occasion including the fam. Great review be safe.

Great review, Matt and Beth. The saddle tan and blue interior of this truck reminds me of the Bill Blass edition of the Lincoln MK in the 80s.

I ordered the Maverick XLT Hybrid back in September and I feel that mine is right around the sweet spot between cost and amenities. My only option is the XLT Luxury pkg and it has most of the same features that the Lariat Luxury pkg has such as heated seats and a power driver seat. I'm hopefully going to get my truck by July at the latest.

I've had my maverick for 3 weeks now and 1000 miles later i have never pinched my fingers on the door handles lol. Also I'm over 6 feet tall and not one problem with the starter button. you think your knee is going to hit the button while you are driving? It's indented. Almost impossible to hit it by accident. Anyway yes Ford did cheap out on power passenger seat and some of the plastics. Also on the infotainment system is lower tech but I like how they didn't put in climate controls on the screen. Hard buttons is pleasantly nice for those. My Lariat Lux has some nice tech and can haul 4000 pounds. Need to mention that. Good review though.

You said it Matt, for low to mid 20k this isn’t a bad truck, but for mid to upper 30k, no thanks.

I could not bring myself to buy a new car in 2022 without cruise control. The XL trim is out, have to go to XLT.

I absolutely adore this little pickup truck. Base base trim is the way to go to get the most for your little money spent. Don't look at it as if it's a truck think of Maverick as it's a Corolla in a truck form.

Thanks Beth! Thanks Matt! I personally prefer the smaller screen.

Ford made an affordable and practical vehicle. These are selling like crazy, up 82% in sales in Q1 2024 YOY vs 2023.

My xlt hybrid is in production right now. I'm guessing the interior will be like my old 2007 mustang GTs plastic interior.
